Freepers are up to no good
Lehrer's Bias in Presidential Debate- note the novel he wrote on this subject
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1232266/posts

It probably just my inherent VRWC paranoia, but it seems as though Lehrer might have had an agenda in his questions. Numerous questions to President Bush were phrased in such a way as to put him on the defensive, requiring him to explain how he would correct what Lehrer implies are previous mistakes. Conversely, most of Kerry's questions were soft balls designed to let him reitrate his new and improved (and presumably final and solid) campaign talking points. I guess Kerry's two decades of Senate votes on matters effecting foreign affairs were not deemed germane to tonight's discussion of foreign affairs. I'm sure there will be much discussion among the pajamaed (sic?- hell, I don't even know if this is a word-but it should be) hoi polloi regarding this issue. What's intersting is a novel that Lehrer wrote a few years back. Here's an excerpt: "Taking journalistic activism to unprecedented new heights, the media figures at the heart of this ingratiating post-Clinton political satire overtly change the course of a presidential election. At Williamsburg, Va., a few weeks before election day, Bible-quoting, media-savvy Republican David Donald Meredith will debate an all-but-defeated Democratic challenger. But newspaperman Michael J. Howley, the debate moderator, and the panel of questioning journalists so fear the consequences of Meredith's impending presidency that they conspire to ruin him by dispensing with the set debate format and ambushing Meredith with damning, unpublished documents in Howley's possession." From the novel "The Last Debate: A Novel of Politics and Journalism, by tonights moderater, Jim Lehrer. Hmm, a cabal of heroic Lefty, err, liberal activists, I mean journalists, go after a Bible-quoting Republican incumbent to in order to save their floundering Democratic challenger. You don't think...no. Of course not. After all, this was just a work of fiction. I mean really, a Left leaning media. How absurd!

Newsmax picked up on it, but so far they are the only ones I noticed:
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We know how these people like to lie. Plus remember Newsmax was the one saying that democrates were stealing the election by registering people in massive amounts.

they fought hard, and by many accounts got everything they wanted - including Jim Lehrer.

3. Hey freepers
I know what happened tonight. And it is much simpler than you imagine.

BUSH SUCKED!!!! HE SUCKED!!!! No. No, I take it back. He didn't suck. He suckity-suck-sucked.

He sucked WORSE than even **I** thought he would suck and I've been listening to that man since 1994 (I live in Texas).

That's pretty damn bad.

Face it, your guy blew the debate. Not just a little bit, either.

9. oh no! put the president on defensive?
He's been President for the past 4 years. I should bloody well hope they ask him some tough questions! The bar is higher is when you're in charge, you're in a greater degree of responsibility. Bush has to be held accountable for his actions.

Why, that's interesting! HA!

So, FReepers think Democrats shouldn't vote. If we do, we're 'stealing' the election ¿

I guess we shouldn't expect our votes to be counted, either, eh?

16. Are you kidding!

Anyone can read the transcript and see otherwise.

Someone needs to go through it and see how many times Bush was granted that extra response time. They were supposed to use it just ONCE per the rules, but Bush kept using it over and over to counter Kerry's responses and get an extra argument worked in.

Lehrer should of smacked Shrub down and disallowed it. Kerry after the 2nd time turned and called bush out on it, saying something to the effect that he would be glad to just throw all the rules away and straight up debate if Bush wanted. Anyone catch that exchange?

I am a Viet Nam veteran. I have not voted once in my life in any Presidential election. And I am in my late 50's.

But I'm going to vote this time for Kerry, if I have to crawl down the expressway on my belly to get to the polling location.

So get used to it!!

18. Response to this
In a boxing match, the reigning champion, the one defending his title, has to prove more. More is expected. A President should be Presidential, and he was not. A President should have to defend his actions over the past 4 years. Each election is a referendum on the previous 4 years, to the incumbant will always have some sort of appearance of having to take the defensive. It is just more obvious with this president, because he has so much to be defensive about. After all, all of these controversial actions he has taken, from Iraq to Judge Appointments to 'initiatives' to Constitutional amenendments, he has done WITHOUT A MANDATE of the people. And no, 911 does not erase the fact that more PEOPLE (not electors) voted for the other guy. And no, I will never get over it.

22. as we all know

Saint George of Midland is infallible. Never mind that every policy he champions leads to fuckups on a grand scale- the True Believers know the Earth is only an illusion and Reality is merely a convention that happens to be infiltrated with fiends and demons, so getting it right doesn't really matter!

His problem was that he tanked up on too much Topamax tonight. So he was zoned out for the first third of the thing, was alert for the second third but Kerry was in stride and whacked him just as he was getting more coherent, and for the last third the Topamax wore out and he start having little absence seizures.

Hey, at least he didn't trip on the stage while walking off it and mash up his face again. Wouldn't have been able to blame that on a pretzel or a Segway.

29. Check out this post...
I hope that the blogosphere will investigate whether Jim Lehrer may have given the questions to Senator Kerry's campaign office in advance. If that is true it will make the recent scandal at CBS seem like a minor event. -- RayChuang88

LOL! Apparently, they know nothing about Kerry's ability -- totally blindsided tonight.
