OFFICIAL BUSH-KERRY DEBATE THREAD #10
For those of you who feel like participating in an official play-by-play thread about tonight's presidential debate, here's another.

You aren't required to post in here. If you want to start your own threads, you can. This is just provided for those who want it.

When this approaches 100 replies, we'll open another thread.

Enjoy!

NOTE: After the debate, we encourage DU members to help spread the Kerry message. There is a thread pinned to the top of the General Discussion: Campaign 2004 forum which has talking points, links, and other resources to help you out.

141. CNN/AP article slanted and misses Bush lies
I've already contacted CNN Politics Editor with my feedback below.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/30/debate.fact.c...

The CNN/AP Article: "Iraq, terror record stretched two ways" purports to point out mistruths from the debate. However it hardly touches upon the Bush mis-truths in the coverage. I've identified two already and will write the editor to complain that they update their article. I suggest DU members analyze the article and provide their own coverage of other Bush lies that I have missed. Note watch for it in other publications, as AP articles get sold to multiple outlets.

DEBATE TRANSCRIPT:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/30/debate.transc...

REPLY HERE WITH LIES YOU FIND IN THE BUSH DEBATE TRANSCRIPT:

http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form6.html?1

INTELLIGENCE REPORT LIE

Lehrer to Kerry:
"Colossal misjudgments." What colossal misjudgments, in your opinion, has President Bush made in these areas?

BUSH: "My opponent looked at the same intelligence I looked at and declared in 2002 that Saddam Hussein was a grave threat."

FACT: Bush actually receives far more detailed and often classified reports. Bush received a classified Intelligence Report from the CIA which we now know was heavily altered by the Bush administration then released in declassified form to Congress and Senator Kerry in order to bolster the WMD claims and case for war against Iraq.

RAPID VICTORY LIE

LEHRER: New question, Mr. President, two minutes. You have said there was a "miscalculation" of what the conditions would be in postwar Iraq. What was the miscalculation, and how did it happen?

BUSH: No, what I said was that, because we achieved such a rapid victory, more of the Saddam loyalists were around. I mean, we thought we'd whip more of them going in.

But because Tommy Franks did such a great job in planning the operation, we moved rapidly, and a lot of the Baathists and Saddam loyalists laid down their arms and disappeared. I thought they would stay and fight, but they didn't.

And now we're fighting them now. And it's hard work. I understand how hard it is. I get the casualty reports every day. I see on the TV screens how hard it is. But it's necessary work.

FACT:

Bush lied about Baathist Loyalists being being behind recent attacks in Iraq. This was an excuse given early in the post "Mission Accomplished" Iraq as a reason for the resistance. Since Saddam's capture the administration has dropped this excuse, until tonight. We know that a lot of attacks are attributed to Zarqawi, part of Ansar al Islam, and also to Al Sadr and his Shiite movement. Few attacks in past months, if any at all, are attributed to former Saddam Baathist Loyalists (who are part of the Suuni minority).

4. Kerry just did an amazing thing.
His statement about having to change course as you learn new information practically had Bush chopped down to bits and the moment Bush replied saying that he WILL change course when need be simply said that Kerry was right, Bush is wrong, and the entire night had the tone of a teacher (Kerry) teaching a pupil (Bush).

I couldn't have DREAMT a better debate.

bush is that both Kerry & bush are wearing white shirts, but Kerry's is tinted blue while bush's is tinted pink (gay, I guess).
Of course Kerry is wearing a red tie, bush is wearing a blue one. Could that maybe have something to do with it.

"but Kerry owns Bush in this debate.

He absolutely does. Bush should have killed Kerry on Sudan. Thrown the UN back in his face. Said that we've taken this to the UN and the UN is sitting on its hands.

Most all, he could have said "why is the Senator favoring our intervention in Sudan, when he says we shouldn't have gone into Iraq?"

Kerry didn't even miss a beat. He's crushing Bush on this point. * has been scurrying after the oil and Halliburton favors so hard and fast, he's cut programs or ignored the threat.

DU Bunker buster program to be shut down because we are serious about preventing nuclear proliferation. Following Kennedy's lead.

happenened in 2001 bush tried to cut funding to pay for disposal of soviet nukes and for salaries for ex-soviet nuclear scientists so they would not sell their talents on the black market.

its why today that dick lugar, that pinko commie senator from indiana considers bush an idiot.

27. NAIL HIM KERRY... "I didn't put sanctions on Iran, previous admin did"

Dear god, Bush has totally opened himself up on this one.

He just admitted to not doing ANYTHING against Iran, other than continuing someone else's policy.

Didn't 9/11 change everything? Didn't * classify Iran as a member of the Axis of Evil?

Wouldn't these two things have warranted perhaps revisiting the previous sanctions?@!?! (Or would that have affected Halliburton's profits?)

I'm 5 minutes behind and am praying that Kerry nails him on this. Though I have little hope that he will. Bush has tossed-up a number of softballs that Kerry has totally bypassed.

84. If this debate was suppose to cover *'s STRONGEST area...
...then the next two debates are going to be a cakewalk for Kerry! I seriously expected Bush to at least put up enough a fight to give FOX enough soundbites to declare him the winner, but this is a ROUT!! Kerry has completely blown Bush out of the water and I don't see how the media can effectively cover Bush's ass on this one! Any pundit that would declare this debate a win for Bush has all the debate skills of a 3RD Grader!! Who can take anyone seriously that claims a stuttering, water swilling, pleading voiced shrub even came CLOSE to the calm and statesmanlike presence of John Kerry?!?

My verdict:

KERRY WINS IN A LANDSLIDE...TONIGHT AND ON NOV 2!!!!

131. I was worried about Kerry re: the $87 billion thing...
But, since about the mid-way point, it's been NOTHING but SCORING from him, and FUMBLE!!! from Dub, on question after question. The final part was almost unmerciful for Dub...I'm starting to think that he DID have Vodka in that glass--and a flask to fill it below the podium!:eyes:

Dub looked like the good ol' blithering idiot we all know him to be in that final half-hour, and Kerry...well, I kept telling my wife (who was in another room because she got tired of hearing me cuss at Dub constantly) that Kerry was hitting his stride, and then he basically rolled over Dub like a tank crushing a Tarantula. No wonder those freeloadin' Freepers are sick...even General Clark (and didn't HE look great on the Daily Show grinnin' likee a Cheshire cat to Jon Stewart!:D ) was noting how they were in despair.

I really would hate to be a Repub tonight--or tomorrow morning. I'd say after this one, about the only good poll news they're likely to get will come from Gallup!:eyes:

:kick:---and John Kerry suuure DID!
