I talked three people into voting Kerry...IT WAS EASY!
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 10:06 PM by gtrump
It happened while phone-banking (first time ever). The folks were "leaning Boosh" because they were afraid of change in the middle of a crisis (I refrained from using the "How the hell do you think we got there" angle). These were the "security moms" so many are talking about.

Do you know what issue it was that turned them? Check this out:

  • "Did you know that George W. Bush is against allowing us to buy cheaper drugs from Canada?"

  • "You know, he and the Republicans get a lot of money from big pharmaceutical interests. There was an article in Time magazine..."

  • "My grandmother died 10 years ago at age 91. All of her healthcare bills were paid for. Today, my mother-in-law spends 1/3 of her SS check for drugs every month. What's happened since then that's made it so much more expensive?"

In other words, the hot-button issue of the night was... HEALTHCARE

Everybody has their own story whether it's about you, a family member, or a friend. Millions have no health insurance. Millions more are underinsured.

This is a critical issue for most Americans, and Kerry has by far the best and most workable plan...use it!

2. Way To Go!
Hopefully your hard work will pay off via a Kerry/Edwards victory!

3. There were lots of volunteers tonight
The place was jammed with us, all working on GOTV and persuading voters. It was amazing to know that so many are so committed to a better country!

We Dems are dead serious about taking North Carolina. I wish JK and JE and all the DUers could have seen it. What a wonderful night!

6. Several different responses

I found that most of the women were very willing to talk, and most enjoyed the conversations as much as I did. The men were less inclined to talk to me, though I think the female volunteers had good success with the guys.

If you mean how did people respond about their voting prefs, of 12 respondents only two were strong Bush supporters, four were leaning Bush, two were undecided, and four were solid Kerry supporters.

Three of the four who were leaning Bush were persuaded once they understood what a disaster Bush has been on healthcare and how much better Kerry's plan is. I now confidently put them in the "leaning Kerry" column, though I didn't do so on the form (them's the rules, ya know).

7. I was wondering if the were suprised to find out the truth. I should have
made that clear. I agree the women will talk to men easier and visa versa. I'm glad you found the healthcare thing. I see it with my family and I couldn't believe others didn't get that. Thanks for letting me know.

8. Oh, OK. Yes, they were surprised.
That was what was so much fun, if a little worrying. To a person they said they didn't know where Kerry stood on the issue. It was my pleasure to inform them both of Kerry's strong positions in favor of access to cheaper medicines and to insuring many more Americans.

It was an even greater pleasure to remind her of what a disaster Bush has been for healthcare in America.

5. I found that to be the case when I was phoning in NH too.
It was health care. If they had only listened to Hillary!
