NRA ads to portray Kerry as sweater-wearing poodle

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John Kerry is portrayed as a sweater-wearing poodle with a pink bow in an upcoming advertising campaign by the National Rifle Association, mocking his attempts to portray himself as friendly to gun sports and saying, “That dog don’t hunt.”

“John Kerry says he supports sportsmen’s rights. But his record says something else,” the ads say.

Billboards and newspaper ads will run this week, followed by TV commercials, Chris W. Cox, the group’s chief lobbyist, said Wednesday. The NRA also plans to emblazon the slogan and the poodle on mailings, hats and T-shirts.

The ad campaign, which the group says will cost several million dollars, is a play on the old saying that means something is so outrageous that it can’t be true.

8. whats' wrong with poodles
I love poodles...

and btw...The NRA argument will not be as persuasive this time around ...after that assault bans weapons fiasco--efficacy or not--over 70% of Aemricans opposed lifting the ban....I don't need an assault rifle or semi automatic to go squirrel hunting

2. Why don't they challenge Kerry and Bush to a shooting match and see who
really knows how to shoot a gun.

Kerry is an expert marksman who hunted his entire life. Bush stuck firecrackers up frog butts.

5. Wrong strategy to protect gun rights.
I am strongly supportive of full Second Amendment rights. I also believe that, pretty soon, the parties will switch their positions on this matter and the GOP will favor taking guns away from the people. What will the rightist NRA do then? What would they have done against the pro-gun rights Dean, for instance? We will see...

7. But weren't poodles bred to be hunting dogs?
Actually, standard poodles (not the toy ones) were bred to be hunting dogs. Even the weird "haircuts" were to keep their joints warm when going into water.

Amazing the weird bits of trivia that get stuck in my head...
