Flashback: Stolen Kerry Laptop with Campaign information.
I thought it would be interesting to have a little reminder of a march 2003 theft.

http://www.news-star.com/stories/031603/New_77.shtml

Campaign spokesman Chris Lehane said the laptop was stolen from his car while he was eating lunch. He said a waiter told him he saw a middle-aged man pull up next to Lehane's car, smash a window, snatch the computer and speed off.

"The information in the computer far exceeded the value of the computer," Lehane said.

He filed a police report, and a witness wrote down the license plate of the suspect's vehicle, but police determined the plate had been stolen. Lehane said he didn't believe the computer heist was anything more than a routine street theft.

"I'm just the latest victim of crime," he quipped. "Crime has gone up under George W. Bush's watch."

1. Most significant line in the entire article:
"Lehane said he didn't believe the computer heist was anything more than a routine street theft."

Yup.

2. My bike got stolen once.
Do you think I should post a thread on GD2004 about it?

6. Why are Dean people getting defensive about it? She didn't accuse the
Dean camp (although I'll bet the majority of us here had it enter into their minds). Have to admit I did expect to see "Dean campaign worker discovered with it" in the body.

That could seriously screw up the Kerry campaign if the info gets in the wrong hands. Not to mention it setting poor Chris back a week or so....

4. I would, if I thought it could be useful in disrupting
a Presidential campaign.

13. I was going to post it because it was also a routine theft.
Having to explain a joke always takes a little bit of the fun out of it.

28. No need to explain yours, but I guess I need to explain mine.
My response was, if the stealing of your bike could be used to disrupt a Presidential campaign, then you should report it.

9. The fact that 2 Dean people are here "squabbling" speaks volumes about
the sort of campaign they're running. This is so Freudian....

"Crime has gone up under George W. Bush's watch."

Crime has gone up under GW. Thanks for posting this and avoiding another bashing-by-inuendo post. I applaud your integrity.

19. Dumbass
Leaving a laptop in a car is pretty dumb, especially if it has something "top secret" or whatever.

20. And I only locked the front wheel of the bike that got stolen.
It was like, whoever stole it's fault, but it could have been prevented. They just unscrewed it and took the rest of the bike!

Chris Lehane left the Kerry campaign -- if it's not a sore subject. Idle curiosity.

23. I was surprised the Clark campaign picked him up
I hope they checked to see if he's grown a brain since the laptop incident. I've heard he's an abrasive jerk, which no doubt contributed to some of the angst behind the scenes at the Kerry headquarters.

24. Hmmm
Somebody "steals" a Kerry staffer's laptop and he goes to work for the Clark campaign. Has Dean's fingerprints all over it.
