Great article on polling scam: the "inevitability" con
http://www.moderateindependent.com/v2i24inevitable.htm

We've been getting e-mails and reading the stories about how supposedly Kerry's campaign is in disarray, how George Bush is supposedly suddenly in the lead, how Democrats are freaking out.

Don't any of you remember last election?

Remember the "inevitability?"

Oh yeah, you forgot about that.

Don't you remember how as far as two years before the last Presidential election the entire media was reporting, and reporting, and reporting, that it was inevitable that an unknown Governor from Texas, George W. Bush, was "unbeatable" against Al Gore, the semi-incumbent in a time of peace and prosperity?  Don't you recall how basically every single poll reported that there was no way Gore was going to win, how Bush's victory was just a matter of time?  Don't you remember how odd and alarming you found that?....

1. do you have any links to stories to back that up?
I would be interested in seeing some of these stories from before 2000 that say what you said they said.

4. Gives me chills
It's almost identical to now. They know what they are doing. Did Bush win 2000 by six points or did I miss something?

5. This is amazing!
CNN OCTOBER 27, 2000

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Today's CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll continues to give George W. Bush an advantage over Vice President Al Gore.

While not a prediction of the voters' choice in November, Friday's results show Bush garnering 52 percent of the vote and Gore drawing 39 percent. The survey of 851 likely voters was conducted October 24-26 and has a 3.5 percentage point margin of error.

A CNN/Time poll also released today gives Bush a 49 percent to 43 percent edge over Gore, which is statistically in agreement with today's CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll, given the polls' margin of sampling error.

ABC News and The Washington Post both have daily tracking polls today putting the race at 48 percent for Bush and 45 percent for Gore. The latest Reuters/MSNBC/Zogby tracking poll has the contest at 45 percent for Gore and 43 percent for Bush.

and here is the graphic that went with it, again this is OCTOBER 27, 2000:

2. We have to shut down cable news and force them to clean
up their act! If there is any hanky panky in the election coming from the media we should cancel our cable subscriptions immediately.

6. This is really huge and should be hammered on over and over
again. We should start an all out WAR on the media with things like this as evidence. This is it. This is proof that the polls are not correct and we should not put up with it.

7. Just finished reading the entire article.
Everyone must read the whole thing. Very well documented and devastating reminder of the polling flim-flam throughout that entire presidenial election cycle. It will really give you a new perspective on our current polling woes.

snip>

April 19, 1999, USA Today, Sagging poll numbers bog down Gore, by Richard Benedetto:

“In hypothetical matchups, recent polls show Gore trailing by double digits behind the Republican front-runner, Texas Gov. George W. Bush.   A USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken last week… offered further cause for concern. It put Gore 21 percentage points behind Bush, a gap of landslide proportions if the election were held today.”

Nice, huh?  A little known Texas Governor, according to all major sources, is trouncing a sitting Vice President in time of peace and prosperity two years before the election, almost a year before the primaries even begin, before this Governor even has a chance to become the candidate for the Republicans.

snip>

But this fictional information - and it was just that - that George W. Bush was trouncing Al Gore - was everywhere:

August 30, 1999, Jay Leno, as reported by The Bulletin Frontrunner:

Jay Leno: "The latest polls suggest if the election were held tomorrow, George W. Bush would beat Al Gore…”

October 31, 1999, NBC News’ Meet The Press, Tim Russert

“Let me show you a couple polls. First, a head (to head) race between George Bush and Al Gore… Bush wins 49:39.”

I'm sure all of you remember this as well from your own newspapers and the TV programs you saw.  All along it was clear it was not possibly true - there was no way an unknown Governor was beating a peace-and-prosperity era sitting Vice President before he even had a chance to introduce himself to the nation.

8. More on this topic from CNN archives Oct 9, 2000
WOODRUFF (voice-over): For the first time, George W. Bush has hit the 50 percent mark in the CNN/"USA Today"/Gallup tracking poll, moving eight points ahead of Al Gore, who is at 42 percent. Why is Bush leading now?

KEATING HOLLAND, CNN POLLING DIRECTOR: He's got a major advantage on several personal characteristics that we weren't sure, at the beginning of the fall, were going to really matter to voters all that much. But now it looks as if he's kind of tied with Gore on a number of different issues. Personal characteristics may be becoming more important.

WOODRUFF: The poll asked which candidate was seen as more honest and trustworthy: Bush beats Gore 48 to 34 percent. On who is seen as a stronger and more decisive leader, it's Bush over Gore 48 to 38 percent. And on who is seen as a more likable person: Bush is ahead 49 to 38. The survey was conducted over three days -- Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- just after the political news was dominated by questions about Gore's truthfulness in certain statements during last week's presidential debate.

10. this is scary --very well done
Yes, they are professionals with lots of experience.

I have never been so angry about any election before.

They have got to be stopped. Voters in Ohio ought to take to the streets over the latest attempt by another crooked, Republican SOS who is trying to disenfranchise voters. They should NOT be allowed to get away with a single lie, a single dirty trick, without people taking to the streets and hollaring, in fury, until they are hoarse.
