wake me if someone changes position in the ranking.

4. Perception - It's never as wide as it seems and gets closer...
as people get down to voting. Dean is still solid in NH but I think Clark is doing the right thing in getting free press time.

2. Harkin's Endorement Will Help A Little
Sad how late he waited to do the endorsement, though.

Only one way to find out and wait til votings over. :)

41. I think that was governor Vilsack who said that.
In any case, I think 10 days is perfect timing for the Harkin endorsement with the amount of sludge that is being thrown at Dean. Too early, the endorsement might wear off, too late, and it might not have the full effect. Keep the endorsements coming steadily to offset the sludge factor.

69. Yet he voted for the Iraq Resolution too...
Harkin's last run for the Presidency foundered for two reasons: being too far left, and BEING TOO ANGRY.

He used to have quite a reputation for meanness, and it was quite unfair, since he's a very decent guy. He's forceful and hot, though, and the two are often confused.

It really was a puzzling move; I have to believe that he either likes Dean's fervor the best, or thinks he has the best chance to win.

Harkin's a good man, but even he made the wrong call on the Iraq vote.

31. We're on the same team
so don't get me wrong here...

But I think you should edit the subject line of this post. "Tanking" is inflammatory.

Polls, for what they're worth (because if you love the front runner the poll is GREAT NEWS, and if you don't the polls, "don't mean anything") rise AND fall and rise again. Ask Kerry. Ask Edwards. Ask Dean. Soon, we'll be asking Clark. It's the nature of the beast... a rollercoaster, if you will.

I give kudos to Dean for this: Yesterday, when asked about his poll-indicating front runner status, he said (paraphrasing), "Polls don't mean much." Good for him. On top, and recognizing an opportunity to be humble.

If Clark's numbers take a dive, are we, ask Clark supporters going to assume he's "tanking", or will we, like Dean supporters, mobilize our team and work harder to give an upward shot?

Just my 2-cents worth. I know it's unusual, but Skinner's lovefest has me thinking clearly again.

Still love the General. Still want the General. Will work for Dean if he gets the nod.

62. Reality check (from a Clarkie)
Much as I'd enjoy it, Clark isn't even close to 1st place (yet). Dean certainly isn't tanking. Notice the gap between 1st and 2nd. I'm happy, but Dean still has a big win scenario going here. Here's what it looks like:

I'm encouraged, but not exstatic.

68. He didn't 'tank'.
Before the last poll Iowa was still a toss-up. The last poll where Dean had a HUGE lead came out just AFTER Gore endorsed him. So of course his numbers went WAY up, just like Bush's did with the capture of Saddam. Now they've come back down to where they were pre-Gore. Which is fine by me.

Of course they'll go back up with Harkin now coming out and will probably stay high being we're so close to election day.

As for NH, Dean's lead is solid. Which SHOWS Clark is getting Kerry supporters and no one is leaving Dean. THAT is the key here. If Clark's lead was growing, while Dean continually was losing in the polls, you'd have a point. But since that isn't the case, it's a win win for BOTH candidates.
