More on OHIO disenfranchisement
From the Dayton Ohio Inquirer

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=18715

"Disenfranchised by old technology"

28 September 2004

A group claims that the state of Ohio has rejected thousands of voter
registrations because they are on the wrong paper. Citizens for
Legitimate Government said that an old law requires all voter
registration forms to be on cards that are 80lb stock paper. This is
a hangover from the days when such forms had to be kept for a long
time.

However, according to the group, that requirement has long since
stopped being important since all applications are immediately
scanned and stored in a computer database and are no longer
physically stored.

However, for some reason, just before the voter registration date is
about to end, Ken Blackwell, the Ohio Secretary of State ordered
local election boards to send out 'correct forms' and tell voters to
re-apply.

The Citizens for Legitimate Government claims that the local boards have been snowed under with requests and can't process the voter application forms in time.

The result is that they will not be able to vote."

2. one reply to one of my e-mails
Thank you for your email regarding paperweight of voter registration
forms. Please be advised that the Stark County Board of Elections does
not reject any registration form based on the weight of the paper.

Jeff Matthews, Director
Stark County, Ohio Board of Elections

 What's up?

4. It's county vs. state.

SOS has said "check on the weight of the paper." Some local county boards are pushing back, and, intelligently, saying NO, WE WON'T.

What would REALLY be useful is to collect replies like yours and try and figure out which counties are going to reject and which counties are OK.

Edit: Then we could collectively focus our efforts and pressure said counties.

5. Is acceptance determined by county?
That is not necessarily good either

If a person registered on line, and printed out their registration and mailed it in, how do they know if they have registered?

This sec of state from Ohio is a real piece of work

I hope we have lawyers to help us in Ohio

6. Voter registration is ALWAYS done by county.
Well, most places. Some municipalities have special elections boards.

Best thing for a voter to do: call your local county elections office to see if you are registered to vote.

Most of them also allow you to look it up online. Google "county name" + elections.
