CNN: Majority would support Bush if he wanted to send more troops to Iraq
OK, please...how and why is this wrong? These CAN'T be real numbers...how the hell can Bush have "his highest job approval rating since January?"

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/27/prez.poll/index.html

Although the poll showed Americans divided almost evenly over whether they approve of the president's Iraq policy, 55 percent said it was not a mistake to send U.S. troops there, compared with 42 percent who thought it was a mistake.

And a majority, 53 percent, said they would support Bush if he wanted to send still more troops to Iraq. Asked which man would better handle the situation in Iraq, 55 percent said Bush and 41 percent said Kerry. Two months ago, they were tied on that question.

The poll also showed Bush's job approval rating at 54 percent -- the highest since January -- and it found increased public approval for the president's handling of the economy, terrorism, the situation in Iraq and foreign affairs.

Among likely voters, 49 percent also said they believe Kerry would lead the country in the wrong direction, compared with just 44 percent who thought he would lead it in the right direction. But 54 percent of likely voters thought Bush would take America in the right direction; only 44 thought he would move the country in the wrong direction.

6. Yeah, that was my point...this came from out of nowhere...
...all of the negative press about Iraq, the Allawi "testimonial" that NO ONE seemed to buy... Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf saying the war made things WORSE throughout the world...I look at these numbers and I just don't get it.

4. But it's misleading to assume support for Bush
Our troops are under-provisioned in Iraq, and there are too few of them to "get the job done".

I'd rather that they all come home NOW, but if they're going to be staying, they might as well have the best support we can offer them.

Ultimately, this is a BAFU -- Bush Administration Foul-Up. And it's exactly the kind of BAFU they wanted. It's a shame that so many people have been convinced that Bush is some kind of Superpresident, but win or lose, that impression won't last long.

5. I'm beginning to think the majority of my fellow
Americans are on cocaine, like our so-called Great Leader. There simply is no other explanation. And I wonder just how many of these would support sending yet more troops to their deaths in an endless, senseless quagmire if their own kids were in danger of going. It's always easier when it's other people's kids.

And just where the hell would he get more troops, anyway? The military is already stretched too thin, with National Guard troops being kept longer and sent over twice. But of course, that's not their problem as long as it's other people's kids.

7. ok, so
even if the draft is not going to happen <ha!> i'd like to see them ask the same question, but ask if they are willing to support the president in calling up a draft and sending the draftees over...

bet you his approval would plummet.

CNN must be taking its polling tips from Gallup. I REFUSE to believe that this is accurate.

by making up their own numbers. Try it...it's fun!

11. I can believe this because there are two simultaneous factors . . .
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 12:09 AM by OneBlueSky
at work in this country today . . .

first, people are stupid . . .

second, the media is exploiting that stupidity to brainwash them . . .

the result? . . . stupid people who are also misinformed, ill-informed, and uninformed . . .

makes for a public dialogue that is the laughing stock of the rest of the civilized world . . .
