I'm in SHOCK when i meet a * voter
Totally shocked and blown away.

I physically step back and say, "WTF?"

Have you been paying attention? This election is a no-brainer, unless you do not have a brain, or it has been brainwashed.

I am amazed by the number of people I still meet on a daily basis that are not paying attention. "I'm too busy to pay attention to poltics" or "They're all liers".

I work 60 hrs a week, take care of two girls, play in a band once a month, canvas for our govenor's race, and fundraise for a non-profit performing arts council. I'm busy too , and I pay attention.

I hope my shock and awe technique of greeting potential voters is a wake up call.

3. Sent to me today from a good friend
Rabid recon - who added to her email - think I'm going to raise my IQ in November!

A popular watering hole had a new robotic bartender installed. A fellow came in for a drink and the robot asked him, 'What's your IQ?' The man replied, '150.' So the robot proceeded to make conversation about Quantum physics, string theory, atomic chemistry, and so on. The man listened intently and thought, 'This is really cool.'

The man decided to test the robot. He walked out of the bar, turned around, and returned for another drink. Again, the robot asked him, 'What's your IQ?' The man responded, '100.' So the robot started talking about football, baseball, and so on. The man thought to himself, 'Wow, this is amazing.'

The man went out and went back in a third time. As before, the robot asked him, 'What's your IQ?' The man replied, '50.' The robot then said,'So, you gonna vote for Bush again?'

The man went out and went back in a third time. As before, the robot asked him, 'What's your IQ?' The man replied, '50.' The robot then said,'So, are you really going to vote for Kerry?'

The man went out & back in a fourth time. Again, the robot asked him, "What's your IQ?" The man replied, "What's an IQ?" The robot replied, "What can I get for you President Bush?"

2. Bush voters are like Klan members.
No matter how clearly you present the facts to them - whether it's about blacks and whites or Iraq and WMD, economy and tax cuts, security, healthcare, the environment - they refuse to accept the obvious.

bush and his administration is the most un-American ever. Pick any three policies and you have to come to this conclusion.

My jaw doesn't drop - it just makes my fucking head throb. I have come to accept the idea that you cannot change a person's mind if it's already been made up for them.

10. A small group of us were discussing Kerry at work the other day . . .
when another employee came up & asked what we were discussing. "How badly Kerry is going to trounce Bush," one of the others replied. Indignantly, the newcomer said, "I'm voting for Bush." Someone else said, "Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that," in the same tone you would use if you heard the guy had cancer or something. It was very funny & appropriate & even the bushite had to smile.

20. Yup, that's Republicanese
Get folks so disgusted with the system that they sit it out rather then soil themselves by association. The Republicans make sure their solid 20-23% turns out as it always does, and if they can hold turnout to less than 50%, their chances of winning go way up.

Voter registration and turnout are Republicans' sworn enemies. The more voters, the better Democrats do.

12. "Politics is too complex for the average voter"
"All politicians are crooks"

"It doesn't matter what I think, nothing ever changes"

These are subversive ideas that are DANGEROUS to democracy.
They are promulgated by Republicans for the sole purpose of reducing voter turnout.

15. Me too! I am shocked every time someone admits it.
When canvassing this summer, I noticed that fewer people were as vocal about Bush as they were maybe a year or so ago, but the ones who are, well, it always blew my mind.

We went up to one woman's house and gave our standard blurb and with this huge smile she said, "Well, we just love George Bush in this household!"

The 3 of us were like "oh, how nice for you, have a good day", and it took all self-control not to burst out laughing until we were safely down the street.

She was totally Step-Ford wife'ish, the way she said it.

"Would you rather have a president who tells little white lies, or big, gaping, gushing blood-red ones?"

(on edit: This argument particularly sticks in the craw of fundies, because Christians are taught that we're ALL sinners...)

Iraq, then send your child to Iraq".Be prepared to sacrifice your child or grandchild for Falluja or Ramadi

My girlfriend's aunt was not very happy when I told her that yesterday about sending her 18 year old son to Iraq

19. Talked with a friend who was canvassing yesterday
She was in our neighborhood talking with registered democrats only....asking what their voting intent is and whether or not they need information or an absentee ballot.

Surprisingly to both of us, while most democrats are voting Kerry, a decent portion were undecided and some were even voting Bush.

Bottom line though was that we were pleasantly surprised at the overall number of democrats in our area, since our previous impression was that it was republican dominated. Still....that anyone, especially democrats would consider a vote for Bush is mystifying. I really think there must be a group of lazy voters out there who have so far tuned out the election discussion. Hopefully, they will engage.

21. I do phone banks and canvass in NC - we have registered
Dems that are voting for bush. All I have to do is look at their age on my call sheet. If they are up there in years (70-80) - then I know they are actually Dixiecrats. I guess it is too much trouble to just go ahead and switch their affiliation to republican.

29. Check this out
I was canvassing yesterday afternoon. I stopped at a house where 2 female voters were registered. Different last names. The garage door was open and I see a rainbow gay pride banner on the inner door. A little girl answers the door and I identify myself as a Kerry campaign volunteer. Little girl repeats that to her mommy. To my astonishment, the following phrase emanates from within: "Oh, that's ok, we're voting for Bush!" What the holy f**K?!?! I am still mulling that over. :wtf:

23. I have the same reaction!
It's a though they are from another planet. I sort of stare and wonder, "where the hell have you been these last 3 years. You can't really want 4 more years of this crap, can you?"
I have decided that since I have made up my mind, and am voting Kerry (of course) that engaging one of them will be fruitless.

24. For a lot of people, there is...
an issue or two that they will not compromise on and it keeps them from voting for Kerry. Be it abortion or guns or tax cuts. This keeps them firmly entrenched on the Bush side of the fence. They are not going to change.

I am the same way about certain things. Power seats are a deal breaker for me when buying a truck. If it has power seats, I will not buy it, no matter how good a deal.

Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 11:24 PM by goclark

A young student told me that he was voting for Bush because Bush will lower his taxes.

I told him, unless you have a job,you won't need to worry a great deal. He said he didn't have a job. He also didn't know that he could be drafted with Bush.

They are CLUELESS robots.
