My conservative relative won't vote for any "politician."
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 05:40 PM by gulliver
His politics are to the right of Grover Norquist. He says he never votes because he doesn't want his vote going to some corrupt politician.

(Would that more conservatives were this principled.)

1. He is just going to sit by and watch the fascist take over?
Not voting is not the answer, it never changed anything.
This is the feeling of way too many people in this country and this is why people like shrub can run amok.
If you have his ear you need to do everything you can to educate him about how voting is not only a privilege in this country but it is also an obligation. A government for the people by the people.
Good Luck!

3. I don't think this is a "principled" position
I think it is one of naivete. Just what does your relative mean by "corrupt"? This is a convenient stance to take when you THINK your life will not be affected by whoever is in office. But those who are poor, working poor, gay/lesbian, female, elderly, black, latino, etc.etc.etc. cannot afford this kind of rarefied attitude.
