I looked for transcripts but could find none. However, Biden did an exceptional job, as Joe Kennedy put it during the impeachment debate, of "putting the wood to" Bush's main line of attack against Kerry.
Now what makes this interesting is that they also had a segment in which Garry Mauro and Weld discussed debating Kerry and Bush in earlier general election campaigns. What Mauro said emphatically is that how Bush will respond in the debate is EXACTLY how he is responding right now in his statements to the press and his stump speech.
Chris Wallace, who, without a doubt in my mind, takes his cues directly from the gop spin machine on how to procede, confronted Biden with the clip from Kerry regading deposing a dictator and getting chaos to replace it with. Then he played the clip of Kerry saying in 12/03 that we were better off without Saddam. Chris smugly asked Biden if that wasn't a flip-flop for political expediency.
Biden's answer was almost as good as his teeth-clenching dressing down of Herr Ashocroft regarding the treatment of prisoners.
Things have changed, Chris, he started. Wallace started to object and Biden talked right over him, more than 700 soldiers have DIED since Kerry's statement. There are huge parts of the country delcared no-go zones. The borders are porous and jihadist are streaming into the country.
Then Chris tried a second attack, this time playing a clip of Kerry talking about allies juxtaposed against the clip of him saying Allawi was just putting the best face on it. Biden said HE WAS. He said Allawi is a very good friend of his that in private, Allawi acknowledges all of the problems Kerry has noted.
That's most of what I remember.
Peace out. If anyone remembers more, please add it.
