Maybe I'm behind on the news but I just heard the commentator on C-Span say that Kelley's book is NUMBER ONE BEST SELLER on the Wall Street Journal Book List. And the New York Times says it will top as NUMBER ONE On their best seller list by October 3rd.

Uhh huh...yup.....uh huh....yup. uh huh!!!!!!

1. the book
is actually a better read than I anticipated. She isn't a sleeze writer. Lots of sources...and god help us if Jeb runs for Pres. He may be the worst of the lot...although he's got a lot to live up to.

2. The book deserves to be # 1

I just finished it yesterday.
I thought it would be a lot of gossip but it is a detailed account of the Bush Sopranos.

When you finish the book it is crystal clear that the Apple GW is right off of the Dynasty Tree. The whole family is rotten to the Core and they have worked to destroy this country for a looooog time.

Bravo to Kitty Kelly!

This nightmare of BushCo must end on Nov. 2

13. ditto
The book seems thoroughly documented and the book is a lot smarter than I thought it would be. I'm actually listening to the unabridged audio book, so it's taking longer than if I was reading it (28 hours).

15. Me, too!
She's keeping me company on my 1.5 hour round-trip commute twice a week. I should finish next week.

I'm very impressed with the sources she's using to back up her comments. Very well written and well done!

8. zackly my point.....isn't it amazing how such a HUGE book is being
ignored?

not really

unless it's about the Clenis, or Kerry's cowardice in Nam, the liberal media don't wanna know about it

truly mindboggling how quickly she disappeared from the MSM

4. I love the book-I've been losing sleep reading it
it is very well-written and well-researched. It's interesting to see the family in historical perspective. Prescott Bush, despite some of his less attractive attributes, was a lot more principled than either his empty-suit of a son or grandson. I liked how Kitty highlights the differences between them.

9. I'm about 3/4 of the way through it.
I can't put the book down. The only time I stop reading is to get on the DU!

It really is a very well-researched and documented book. These people are despicable. And I agree with previous poster, Jeb may be the worst of the bunch and that's saying a lot!

10. I'm about halfway through this.
And it's a much more interesting read than I expected; it definitely isn't the trash wallow that the media would have us believe. Obviously Bush fans aren't going to like it, but I'm finding the portrayal of the family fascinating, especially Prescott Bush (who'd probably be damned as a flaming liberal by Republicans today).

12. I'm up to P. 503 out of 634, and it's great
Actually, the only "wild" tidbits are the ones released before publication---the Shrub chemical abuse and obnoxiousness, but actually nothing much that hasn't already been known since Fortunate Son.

The first third, about the earlier B.F.E.E. was sketchy, but when she got into Prescott's and Poppy's political careers and political stands, she really took her stride. She has an excellent grasp of the give and take of compromising principles that goes on. And actually, her description of the campaigns in the '50s and up might be written today. It's amazing how things stay the same.

Despite her graphic descriptions of the arrogance and elitism of the Prescott generation, she conveys some decency about him, and makes the contrast between a few courageous political stands of his and the multitude of lies in Poppy and Shrub. Her account of Poppy's trying out ever changing "reasons" for the 1st Iraq war is chillingly the same as Shrub's. Did you know that they polled back then and found the "reason" that resonated most with us was how evil Saddam was and what a nuclear threat he MIGHT be?

Chapter 20 is a great summary of how the Shrub boys have all scammed and cost the country billions.

She's being blacklisted on the talk show circuit, but it ain't for the "gossip". The B.F.E.E. is more sensitive about its business dealing being in a handy summary, plus the lies out in the open, and the vindictiveness, and the falsity of the "niceness".

16. It's More Like the Overall Impact
of ripping aside the P.R. image of the whole family, the FAKE "decency". Just about all of them are, indeed, liars and crooks, vindictive and shallow in a criminal sort of way. The point is made again and again that Poppy had no compelling principles to stand for, that his only goal was "success".

For those who are young, Poppy's being a VERY practiced liar will come as a contrast to his "harmless doofus" image.

As somebody said in another thread, all up to this late in the book and Shrub is barely more than a minor, supporting character. Remember the well known incident of Shrub calling Al HUNT an "asshole" in a restaurant in front of HUNT's wife WOODRUFF and their kids? There's a list of about 3 or 4 more similar incidents with other reporters.

By far the gossip tidbits are not what are attention getting or even abundunt. It's mostly about Prescott Senior and Poppy, with general brushstrokes about the political issues of the day.

In trying to answer your question, before the book was published, the gossip columnist Cindy ADAMS said there were "5 major bombshells" in the book. Being this far into it, I am hard pressed to name them. We all knew about the cokehead. The fuss about Sharon Shrub is wholly overblown. She doesn't add up to a paragraph in a couple of scattered places in the book.

17. I admire Kitty Kelley
More than words can say. After all they've done to prevent her success, she is now #1 !!

Go Kitty!!

Thank you for those comments on the book, UTUSN. Your description "resonated" with me:

Just about all of them are, indeed, liars and crooks, vindictive and shallow in a criminal sort of way. The point is made again and again that Poppy had no compelling principles to stand for, that his only goal was "success".

What hideous people.

21. I don't think she did a good job on the Prescott Bush/Nazi connection.
Just reading through the posts about this on DU today, it looks like she pretty much let Prescott off the hook. (I have read about 300 pages so far, including the parts about Prescott.)

Her coverage of GHWB is MUCH better. After reading this book, I can see that there isn't one wholesome bone in that man's body.
