Carville should glove slap Bill Mahrer
I love Bill Mahrer. He speaks the truth. But last night on his HBO show I almost turned it off several times. What a fuckhead!

Just hours after James Carville gave a GREAT speech on Crossfire how things for Kerry are looking very good and he wants to "glove slap whining Democrats", Mahrer comes on last night and talks endlessly about how Kerry is being "feminized" by Bush. And he pounded it home over and over.
He would not let up how "Kerry is playing to lose" because "he is not conveying his message".

I felt like I was watching a repeat and he did not even see what a tremendous week Kerry had!

Yes, Mahrer did get his great jabs in at the lying piece of shit Bush, as did Maureen Dowd and Larry Gelbart.
But Bill really was an asshole last night.

I am so sick of panicky. whiny, sissies that cannot handle the ups and downs of a nasty campaign, who reach new highs and lows with every BULLSHIT POLL THAT COMES OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

o.k.....my fit is officially over. DU therapy session complete. I feel better...until I turn on the tv again.

HBO2 repeats the show tonight at 10pm (EST)

6. McGruder has an excuse...
...since the deadlines on his strips require him to produce them a few weeks in advance of publication ... those strips are based on old news. He may have not had faith that what it looked like then would change, but he called it as he saw it at the time.

Maher's show would have been taped much more recently.

8. Maher's show is live on Friday nights.
He knew everything that was going on right up to 10 p.m. CST when the show started.

Presumably, so would McGruder, since he was sitting right there.

7. ITA. Where is he getting his news, anyway? On several occasions
recently, he sounded as if all he knew was what he'd read on Free Republic.

Have to say that I was especially annoyed with all the talk about feminization and panties. Grow up, guys, and look beyond your gonads for analogies! :eyes:

9. I DID turn it off.
If Maher really believed the shit he was shoveling in the opening few minutes of his show last night, he is totally out of touch with reality.

So who is he planning to vote for, Nader? Get with the program, DIPSHIT!!!

18. I don't think Maher is that dumb...to throw away his vote for Nader
The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll has Bush and Kerry in a dead heat EXCEPT for the Nader vote. The Naderites (or maybe Freepers in disguise) have nearly taken over the progressive website, AlterNet, where the Kerry bashing equals that posted at Free Republic. If Bush wins, the Nader voters will also have the blood of dead soldiers, and dead Iraqi innocents on their hands.

10. Bill Maher is NOT a Democrat
He never has been, as far as I know. He has proclaimed himself a Libertarian many times.

13. Micheal Moore is an Independant
But, like Mahrer, realizes what Bush has done and realizes this country is in big trouble if he steals another 4 years.

So he should not smash the shit out of Kerry like he did last night.IMO

19. Right on target.
Moore realizes that ONLY Kerry = No Bush. We'll work out the details after we get the sociopaths out of office. Maher doesn't seem to realize that ABB is NOT really a choice. ABB = John Kerry. No two ways about it.

He openly hates Scrub, but throws away his opportunity to do something about it by bashing the only candidate capable of beating him. Stupid...

but now I'm wondering if I even want to watch.
I love Maher, but I noticed that he often perpetuates the spin of the week, regardless of how pathetic it is.
I've been watching and Kerry really has picked it up this week. I thought he was great, but our cowed media is always going to shill for Bush, subtly or not so subtly. You have to pay attention if you really want to find out what's going on on the other side.
If a tree falls in an empty forest, does it make a sound?
All these people who say Kerry is not fighting back...what, exactly, would they do? How would they get past the media that's largely on the other guy's side?

15. Given the panel I suspect he was just played the right wing role
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 09:25 AM by underpants
I flipped over until I saw the mindless mutterings of Drew Barrymore (Wow what a surprise) so I haven't actually watched the show. That being said the panel seemed to be very middle or left leaning so instead of just having a libfest Maher probably took it upon himself to stir it up. Boondocks has been very critical of Kerry recently too.

I will say this about "not getting his message out" well he doesn't have to. Inside of the polls shows that YES ~65-68% of people "Know where W stands on issues" but more than half disagree with how the War in Iraq is being handled and how the Economy is being handled (if you think they might be important issues when voting) so they know where he stands but they disagree with where he stands. Gee Russert didn't even offer that kind of insight.

Supposedly they trust W more but I don't think that that is how the question is being posed it is being restated as such by the punditry.

22. Powell for President?!
That's ludicrous! But, I believe deep down in his heart Powell knows he is surrounded by war mongering extreme right wing nut jobs.
But since he did not do anything about it, like Richard Clark, (a real hero)I say FUCK COLIN POWELL!

20. IMHO, the REAL problem is..
ALOT of people feel like Maher.

Ive talked to some indys/undecideds and the reason they cite the most is:

-He didnt defend himself against the outrageous claims of SBL's
-He doesnt appear to be very forceful
-* at the very LEAST is 'forceful' enough to stick to his position
-They STILL dont know if he would be strong/a leader on terrorist attacks, etc.

These are NOT my words, this is what has been said to me by undecideds, they WANT to vote for him, they hate *, but they are thinking tha MAYBE * is more of a leader on terrorism.

MAYBE just MAYBE people expressing opinions like Maher's and the undecided indys, will push KE04 to go for an ALL OUT assault on *, no bars hold, just let him have it. I believe alot of people are waiting for this.

Debate is CRUCIAL.

Again, this is not ME talking! NO flames!

21. Ask Bill Maher why he hasn't been paying attention to the last two weeks
of the Kerry Campaign.

http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/?ntrack_para1=leftnav_category0_show7

-Maher is not a Democrat. He is a Libertarian against Bush.
-I would assume Maher lives in and votes in California, and it probably doesn't matter who he votes for. If he sticks to his beliefs he would probably vote Libertarian and help build that party.
-Maher did state at the beginning of the show that he would play Devils' Advocate since he didn't have a wacko on this week.
-Some points were valid. Does Kerry deserve a pass because he has had two decent weeks and many bad ones? Kerry's war stance is still shaky. What would someone like Dean or Clark be doing with the bad news war, compared to Kerry?
-While Maher should be following Kerry, the media pushed him out of the spotlight most of the week. The big story was CBS and that was what Maher seemed most focused on. It was dissapointing since Maher is usually above following the story the media tells him to follow.
-I left the room for a short time, but I don't think they mentioned North Korea's threat of Japan this week, which is one of those stories I would have expected Maher to talk about.
-Damn that Drew Barrymore is a fucking airhead
-Some of the challenges to Kerry came off as challenges to step it up, rather than attacks, even though they were harsh.

23. Actually, it was Maureen Dowd that brought it up
saying that Rove is feminizing Kerry. I kind of agree, not that Kerry is feminine, but that that is what the Bush/Cheney campaign is doing.
