Is the Bush-Drunk Video Real?
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 02:35 AM by liberalpragmatist
You know, the video of George W. Bush some 20 years back at some wedding, wasted and making fun of various friends (he's actually quite funny... and decidedly nonpresidential).

I assume it's real, but I wondered if there were any way it could have been inauthentic. Furthermore, does anybody know what the full context of the video was? What year was it taken? Was his daddy Veep or on the national ticket at the time?

UPDATE: On second thought, he's not very funny. I don't know what I was thinking.

2. It's real and it was NOT 20 years ago
It was 1992, LONG after W. "found Jesus" and "went sober"!

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/bush/bush.html

The video was shot at the August 29, 1992 wedding of Jamie Weiss, the daughter of Dubya's close friends Mike and Nancy Weiss. ...When cameraman T. Patrick Murray filmed Bush during the wedding reception at a Lubbock country club, the future governor took some rambling--and we presume good-natured--swipes at the newlyweds, the bride's parents, and her brother Kelly (Bush was being quizzed by a member of the bridal party). We love the part where teetotaler George actually disses two of the Weisses for supposedly not drinking or smoking. And as for those weird Don King-like "only in America" cracks--not to mention what's in that glass--your guess is as good as TSG's.

3. It's real
And most of what he says isn't that bad if people take the stick out of their asses. I was suprised he could be that relaxed and playful, but oh my he IS human too.

6. Hey it's fine
I just don't think he's that funny. Initially I did and I can see how he and his friends were having a hoot at the time. But after another viewing I didn't find it that funny.

And I just think it's amusing given that he doesn't seem very presidential. Yes, presidents are allowed to have fun. But this is merely an indication of what's clearly obvious with Bush - he doesn't take things seriously and while he's not stupid - he's very shrewd - he's simple-minded. This video wouldn't seem nearly so bad if it didn't confirm every single negative impression people rightly have of GWBush.

And anyway, I was just curious if it were real or not.

4. Yes, it was passed around in 2000 I think
It doesn't matter that he's drunk. He says worse things NOW when supposedly sober.

I don't kow how it downplays his character...when he comes off the VERY SAME WAY in every press conference.

Good man. He's a Good man. Yes. Only in America. Good Heart. He's Got a Good Heart. Yes. I'm thinking of an answer. yes. I wish you'd given me this written question ahead of time. Yes. So much pressure. So much pressure to think of an answer, Yes.

yadda yadda

typical bush :)

7. that was from the late 90's I believe

It's fairly recent. Yes he was drunk at a XMas party. It's of note because he claims to be an alcoholic that hasn't drank in 20 years.

9. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think he's drunk!
But I also don't think he's funny. I don't get what is supposed to be cute.He certainly isn't the master of the witty bon mot!
