2. It's TV friendly
Blue is good for camera. I'm sure there's some subliminal psychological strategy behind it too.

8. Well the shirts look like faded denim to me and they have the sleeves . .
rolled up. I took it as an attempt to reach the "normal" folk that really give them their majority of the vote. If they were in suits all the time they would appear to be above your average farmer, factory worker, etc. They would come across as big business supervisors, bosses, you know, what they really are, etc. So by wearing the denim, they are trying to come across as just another man in America trying to earn a living, taking care of their families, and are just like you and me.

2 cents.

11. Television
Back in the old days of black and white TV, any white guy who wore a white shirt ended up looking like he'd changed his race. Blue shirts were about the same color saturation as white skin, and so both ended up looking white on TV.

The tradition has simply lived on. White shirts are seen as stark and unfriendly, and striped shirting ends up making the TV buzz as moire patterns are generated by analog TV. Hence, the blue shirt.

13. I really like the
french blue (a very dark blue) shirt that Kerry often wears with a navy blue jacket. I think all the candidates wear a lot of blue, it is a nice color.

20. He's wearing body armor under them
Look at how smooth and stiff the shirt looks - he wears a bullet proof vest. I guess the Loyalty Oath is not enough to reassure him.
