Here's a letter to the editor that I sent out this morning, please feel free to modify it for your own use and send it out locally (Steve Chabot is a Republican cement-head from Cincinnati):
"Steve Chabot and George Bush insist that the only thing standing between the current chaos in Iraq and a brighter future are the actions of a handful of extremists. A handful?
"During the month of August, that handful of extremists managed to kill or wound nearly 1,200 American soldiers. That's the equivalent of an entire regiment. Since combat began, more than 8,000 troops have been killed or wounded in action -- that's roughly the equivalent of an entire army division wiped out be a handful of extremists.
"Mr. Chabot and Mr. Bush need to get a clue about what's going on in Iraq."
I think we need to stress the fact that an entire army division has been killed or wounded in Iraq. And I should point out that this doesn't take into account those suffering from debilitating emotional and psychological disorders and those whose wounds have been treated "off the books" by the Pentagon. My guess is that the total is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 -- but 8,000 is what we can document.
