New accusation of Dean dirty tricks in NH?
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 01:06 PM by Bleachers7
<snip>

Over the past 2 days of calling, a number of older respondents registered as undeclared voters have reported that they have received telephone calls from a campaign informing them that they will not be allowed to vote in the Democratic primary because they missed the deadline to switch parties. A respondent discovered, however, that when she told the caller that she was thinking about voting for Howard Dean, the caller told her that she would be eligible to vote.

We just had one election stolen by the republicans. To think we might have one stolen by a Dem makes me sick.

Note: Editted because Dave29 makes sense.

93. Making Unsubstantited Allegations IS the Slimy Tactic
To make these inflammatory charges without tracing them back to the campaign IS the "slimy tactic" here. And I think we're all growing tired of it.

Dean has averaged 37%. He had a high of 39% and is currenlty stable at 35%. Well within the moe. Not a huge drop.

15. This is ridiculous
NH is ground zero for presidential elections and everyone who lives there knows that you don't have to be a registered Democrat to vote in the Democratic primary. Undeclared and Independents are the majority and they get to vote in both Democratic and Republican primaries...same thing in Vermont.

This is just another dumb and baseless attempt to attack Howard Dean.

24. Definitely a pattern
But none of the 'dirty tricks' have been traced to anyone official in the campaign. The worst has been low level volunteers who have taken it upon themselves to spy on Kerry. The Clark flyer was legitimate and wasn't a smear. I still haven't seen the evidence regarding the Kerry flyer.

All in all, I suspect disruptors targeting Dean. Whether GOP or Gep.

26. A pattern of filthy and false accusations against the frontrunner
Yep, I see it plain as day. You see, Bleachers, I live in Vermont and am probably more familiar with Howard Dean's record and political leadership than almost anyone else on here (on equal footing with the other Vermonters here). I know full well that 99.9% of the criticism on here about Dean is either blatantly false or spun so bad that it's not accurate and misleading. I live in the state where Dean supposedly did these things being attacked. I say it's all BS. I think I would have noticed if he were a bad guy, and the fact is, we re-elected him 5 times because he was a GREAT governor.

Also, NH registered Independents and Undeclared voters don't have to change affiliation to vote in NH. They can vote in either primnary. This claim is just another trumped up pile of elephant dung.

not only do I not believe the silly story, but I am not interested in what Joe Trippi does or doesn't do. I am interested in getting George Bush the hell out of the White House and I firmly believe that Howard Dean is the only one with the fundraising ability and balls of steel to fight what's on the horizon. Now, you can continue your efforts to try to convince me and other Dean supporters otherwise, but it's a waste of your time and energy. Frankly, you'll get more of a return by pissing into the wind. Or you could always post positive things about the candidate you support, but I digress...

you can accuse whoever you like - but anybody could be doing this - and it's also possible that the people in question made it up. It's sad to see people assume guilt so quickly.

The Dean campaign has handled one or two issues (which you could probably expect - it happens in any campaign - and this campaign is massive - very quickly and directly.

Let this play out before you assign blame.

What motive would ARG have to place this on their site, other than to inform? Surely no one can think they are "plants" for another campaign. I would like to hear some thoughts as to what motives, other than the aforementioned, are present here? Conspiracy? Hate? What? It is all well and good to blow this off as irrational bullshit if you'd like, but how so? Why is it there?

Dean's supporters harass a Clark supporter on the streets of NY.

Dean supporters are the ONLY supporters of a candidate to heckle a candidate at the Florida Democratic convention. Clark.

A CAR LOAD of Dean supporters gave the finger to a Clark supporter while he was putting out Clark signs in NH.

Dean supporters were caught handing out flyers at a Clark function that had lies on them about Clark.

Dean supporters made phone calls saying Kerry had cancer.

Dean campaign sent out a flyer saying HE was the only one who was against the war when CLEARLY, Dennis Kucinich was also.

Now this? I know, Karl Rove did it. :eyes:

30. it could be Rove and his dirty tricks
one of the Clark Supporter mantras is that they want Dean... we know that - they're brazen about it. So i wouldnt put it past em to call a couple thousand people...

it'd be really interesting to see where that call came from

on the other hand, there have been several accusations of 'dirty pool' the last couple days - pretty much starting from the flubbed press-invited call. We know Trippi has a history of, well, call it 'interesting' campaign tactics.

I think it's worth investigating.

Whomever is responsible should be exposed.

I hope it is not found to be Dean because it would be disgraceful and it would be a disservice to the Democratic party and an insult to those who support Dean.

I mean that with all sincerity. Trippi is the worst kind of political snake and I hope he's not put Deans supporters in the position of defending vile tactics such as these.

71. I hope Clark isn't found to be a pedophile
that would be bad. I have no proof but still, I thought I'd post it anyhow. My neighbor's cousin's mailman's tax accountant heard it at the grocery store.

So Is Clark a Pedophile????

it would be disgraceful and it would be a disservice to the Democratic party

I hope he not a Pedophile...

I mean that with all sincerity.

Because if Clark is a Pedophile it would be an insult to those who support Clark.

Now you really want to continue this bullshit?

75. You're right--- it IS sad.
However, it is no more sad than the initial post which started this thread, and has just as much proof to back it up.

See how that works now?

77. Don't misunderstand.
I agree the story is there; what I mean is there is no evidence FOR the story, other than 3 alleged 'elderly NH voters'. Goossip would also be an acceptable term to use.:)

42. I would like to go on record
that as a Dean supporter I would never, in a million years, believe that ANY of our candidates would sanction or approve any of this kind of crap.

Furthermore, if there's ever any rumor, accusation, etc. about YOUR candidate:

- I won't believe it

- I won't automatically assume it's true because it's your guy/gal and not mine.

- I won't post it, not even once, much less 6 times in a day.

- I won't automatically think it is "evidence" to support a whole world full bad shit about your candidate or his campaign manager.

- I will be extremely, extremely, extremely suspicious of it.

- I will remember that EVERY campaign that uses volunteers cannot control them 100% and that there are no doubt individuals in EVERY campaign who are doing stoopid, stoopid things and unless I hear proof that they were ASKED or ENCOURAGED to do it by the official campaign, it doesn't mean shit.

There is something truly stinky about so-called Dems who are not only ready, but goddam EAGER to believe the worst about candidates other than their own. There's also something extremely fishy about the plethora (sorry, whoever hates that word) of dirty Dean campaign stories that are suddenly popping up.

43. did it ever occur to you that Dean could be set up?
Cmon, someone calls and says it is too late to register to vote in Democratic primary, then someone says, "but I'm planning to vote for Dean" and then suddenly, "oh, it's alright then." That sounds pretty stupid if it is Dean people doing it. Sounds set up.

72. As someone who is admantly opposed
to a Dean nomination for my own reasons, I agree completely about this particular stunt.

Sorry if I offend all you Dean supporters because I'm not pointing fingers at you right now- I flat don't trust Joe Trippi and his being the major figure in the Dean campaign causes me serious doubts about Dean's integrity. Worse Dean's integrity has always been questioned by me personally so that just a double whammy against him, if you understand my point?

HOWEVER, Joe Trippi's stunts have some imagination, some creative flair, that this is distinctly lacking. I'll give the man credit for his creative talents anyway, and this ain't his work, imo.

Yesterday the Dean camp took slam after slam with the whole, "my cousin's uncle's trainer's doctor's receptionist's boyfriend's bartender said" thing...

He said/she said is unverifiable and should be dismissed with a big fat...
