New website: Christians for Kerry/Edwards
Just got an email from these folks, so I'm posting it here for those who are interested:

We thought DemocraticUnderground.com readers would want to know that a new site has just launched at 5:30 p.m. EDT today, Christians for Kerry/Edwards, which takes a hard-hitting look at Bush's "compassion gap" -- the distance between the values he spouts and the examples set by Jesus and George Washington.

Many Christians see a "compassion gap" between (P)resident Bush's words and the examples set by Jesus and George Washington.

Christians for Kerry/Edwards (http://www.christiansforkerryedwards.org) -- a new web site launched on September 14, 2004 -- has unearthed a historical quote from President George Washington, that sounds like our country's first president would have taken Bush to the woodshed for failing to keep his troops in line to prevent the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal.

On September 14, 1775, General Washington penned a letter to Colonel Benedict Arnold, putting this officer on notice that he would be held accountable for the conduct of his soldiers as they marched through a foreign country (Canada). General Washington charged Arnold to ensure that his soldiers "look with compassion" on the local residents (including French Catholics and Indians).

Specifically, General Washington ordered Arnold's troops to respect the religion of foreigners without insulting them or violating their rights of conscience.

According to this Christian author's essay, "President George Bush ignored the example of President George Washington and utterly failed to 'look with compassion' upon people of another country. The Iraqi occupation has disintegrated into a festering quagmire that breeds terrorists. As a result, America is more hated and less safe." (Read the whole essay: http://www.christiansforkerryedwards.org/index.php?id=17)

2. You know ...
When I first started ranting about W and his Christian Fundamentalism, my grandmother was baffled. Being a Christian herself, she didn't understand how W could possibly, even remotely consider himself a Christian. Well, whether or not he personally does (or it's all an act -- who knows), he does promote himself as one. She's finally seen the light -- no pun intended -- and just freaks out constantly about how other Christians could be fooled by him. Well, some of them aren't and good for them! :)

10. Thanks! I sent it to a religious friend who is having serious doubts
about Smirk.

She hasn't said so, but I can tell she is troubled by his actions and his words.

15. Finally, some sanctuary.
This is refreshing in a conservative biased Christian church that I attend.
The people there vote republican becuase they have all fallen victim to the rhetoric that you must be republican if you are Christian.
I have even had members confront me.
Now I can say, check this out, maybe it will wake them up!

16. This is helpful.
I am working a group of moderate religious pubs. I have been angling for a way to drive home that W.rong's actions are NOT christian, and that they are getting played big time.

19. Yeah!
As a Christian, it's sometimes really hard to get other Christians to see the light! Thanks so much for sharing this.
