Man what the hell is wrong with DU?
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 01:24 AM by Melodybe
I am getting seriously tired of this shit, people do nothing but post "Kerry should do this" or "Kerry should do that" then they toally ignore anything good that Kerry actually does say, no wonder the repubs are getting away with everything, Democrats are WAY too quick at attacking our own.

Damn, I am working my butt off for Kerry. I am dealing with two toddlers, an epileptic father and a mother that just went to a mental hospital for manic depression.

If I can be optimistic and have great time at my John Kerry table on campus and register voters, spend time talking to people that might actually change their mind, volunteering at my local Kerry/Edwards headquarters and make it to weekly democrat meetings, all while trying to get F9/11 on the 7th most conservative college campus in the country, what the fuck is wrong with people here? I am actually getting through to a few folks here in MS, the buckle of the bible belt.

Negative posts get all the replies, for example this negative post got four responses in two minutes and my post about Kerry's very good speech to the national guard, is still all alone. I don't care if you are only posting to tell people how wrong they are,you are bringing yourself down. The news media is getting to you, don't let it! The media instaled that fascist in 2000 and they are trying to do it now. Take away their power and quit watching! The media has been on their side since Watergate, wake the fuck up turn that shit off! Tell EVERYONE you know to turn that shit off!

Defeat starts with us, not them.

Get out there and talk to people. If Kerry is doing this well in MS, than things are better than you think.

Peace

1. Well, remember that a lot of them are disruptors
The disruptors have been a veritable plague of locusts here lately. They appear in groups of three and four, start a bunch of loser threads, make a bunch of loser posts, and then get tombstoned.

By that time, though, a lot of DUers have checked in, been disgusted or discouraged, and checked back out. Take heart! Don't let the disinformation or psy-ops of the enemy get you down.

7. Once again, with the "anyone with a different opinion is a freeper"
Did you just read the post about the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, who was arrested for speaking out about her son at a RW rally?

Do you think that was wrong?

If so, then why is it wrong for Dems to also speak other viewpoints?

Are you aware that Howard Zinn, a great liberal role model, has written some "negative" suggestions for Kerry?]

Isn't it time we actually begin to seek real acceptance in the Dem party??????

13. Uh, the mom was speaking AGAINST the pResident
she is deeply pained. I know Zinn up one side ond down the other. He appears to have no opinion on trolls.

Kerry can use some 'tuning up' from Zinn, but in reality WINNING THIS ELECTION is imperative and goal #1.

14. I'm finding that attitude more irritating than any REAL freeps
that may or may not be here - maybe people here are intelligent enough NOT to have to all agree on the exact same things.

Maybe some people don't believe that having a bitch/whine/intelligent discussion of those differences on a internet forum will actually do anything to reduce or increase Kerry chances, people who come to DU because they despise Bush are not going to turn around and vote for him because "dang that negativity got too much" and vice versa freeps and trolls who come here because they LURV Bush wouldn't change their vote even if DU was one big group think circle jerk love-a-thon.

19. Right on Kanary!
Since when does "Democratic Underground" mean "Democratic Party Establishment or else?"

In case Melodybe forgets, the DU rules state:

We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals.

This is a "big tent" message board. We welcome a wide range of progressive opinion. You will likely encounter many points of view here that you disagree with.

23. alittlelark never said such a thing "different opinion = freeper"
Why are you promulgating your own inventions as another's opinion and then railing against your own petard?

9. Bingo ! They've sold their souls to the 'Dark Side'. . . .
It's really weird. I know people who are generally calm and decent, who become REALLY agitated when I dis Bush or support Kerry. In fact it's more than 'agitated'. More like apopleptic. IT REMINDS ME OF THE EXORCIST!!!

11. Yes, they have sold their souls
I understand the premise that "we could be as bad as them..." But I refute it. Liberals look to improve society as a whole, and Con's look to improve themselves.

22. It's a highly orchestrated effort by freepers ...
It's all over right wing freeper boards: Register on DU. Stay in "The Lounge" or "The Meeting Room" and build up your post # like crazy with inane social posts.

Then, when one reaches that magical 1000, go out and BITCH like crazy about Kerry and whatever else will piss off the regulars.

Really folks, it's a truism: "Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer."

I monitor the right wing radicals and some of them are obsessed with attacking the left (including disruptions of DU). They do this because they "love to hate" and have nothing validly positive to say about "their president."

Just FYI :-).

3. Negativity has always gotten attention at DU
Post a slam at a DUer, and it will get much more attention than an article about poverty which calls for some action, or asking posters to email support to someone.

That's the nature of DU. Doan ask me why....

There are two buttons the admins have provided for you.

Kanary, who wonders if you recognize that your *own* post is negative.....

6. well I'm optimistic...
We ARE going to win this thing in November.

I posted a thread similar in tone to yours last week and they came crawling out, accusing me of being the negative one...!

See William Pitt's thread in the lounge about GD2004...sometimes venting is good (in a positive manner of course! :) )

I've actually volunteered and given $$ this campaign, something I had never done before!
And in portland, I see about 30 Kerry bumperstickers or signs for every one I see of Bush...

Plus it helps to remember the media are all pretty much against us (except AAR and a few others)

10. That's kind of the problem
with the democratic party. The repubs are for the most part a big block of people that have almost identical ideas that have been beaten into them since birth. The democratic party is more of a coalition. Alot of different ideas and viewpoints come together because they have more similarities than differences and it does cause friction. But we just have to keep in mind, as they say, when the house is on fire don't worry about re-decorating. Kerry is far from my ideal candidate but I definitely support him and I have been trying to convince everyone I know to support him.

18. Excellent post. You are so right ....let's stop harping on
what if and GET OUT TO DO SOMETHING. At the very least, start a pep rally in here and elsewhere FOR OUR CANDIDATE. GEEZ

Write to papers/networks and REPRESENTATIVES. Get out and talk to others about the Positive attributes of voting Kerry!. DONATE MONEY to the groups who are actually supporting Kerry.

I, for one, APPLAUD LOUDLY those that are actually doing some HANDS ON work for Kerry.

This is the EXACT time in the campaign when we need to band together and PUSH, WORK, GET ACTIVE. The republicans are doing it....shouldn't we be doing it too??????

Turn the TV off and GO DO SOMETHING.

that is all...

20. I think there's a big difference in perception between DU'ers who
sit at home all day watching cable TV, and DU'ers who are out there, circumventing the corporate media, and directly talking to people.

Part of the reason the corporate media has to lie as much as they do is because they have to do something to offset the tremendous power and influece there is in two Americans talking one to one, and in the huge advantage Democrats have in getting people into phone banks and out doing precinct walking.

So, hey, DU'ers, if you're watching TV you're crazy. GO TO A PHONE BANK!!!!!

A phone bank is your mini-broadcast studio. Put your mind to it, and one DU'er could make 1,000 calls by Election day.

While I'm in the camp that ENCOURAGES suggestions and, yes, criticism, Kerry is indeed a fighter who has been in the trenches both literally and figuratively...he knows what he is doing.
