Rocky Mtn. News poll-Kerry/Bush running even in Colorado
Bush 45%
Kerry 44%

Eight points less than Bush's lead in April

Kerry leads by 20 points with independent voters

"It validates our view that we can win Colorado," said Joe Lockhart, a senior adviser, adding that the campaign would keep the state near the top of its target list this fall.

"Important electoral votes, important state and it's a statistical dead heat," he said. "That's first tier by any definition

1. 2nd poll in 2 days to show a dead-heat
ARG also gives Bush only a one-point lead.

2. Good news but an uphill battle
The latest state figures show that Republicans lead with 1,074,366 voters, followed by unaffiliated voters at 945,594; and Democrats at 893,549. I guess the differential in the "unaffiliated" is what may swing the state.

3. Any state this close is a Kerry win in November for two reasons - cell
phone only users (no land phone) and undecided voters. Both groups are going to favor Kerry - probably by large margins.

4. If Bush was ahead 13 points in the national race
as Gallup suggests, does anyone believe that things would be this close in Colorado (which leans conservative)?

Further evidence that Gallup is full of shit.
