Is Mary Landrieu being considered for Vice President?
I think we need a non-white or a woman on the ticket. Mary Landrieu should be on the short list for any Democratic nominee. She is southern, has experience in Washington, is attractive (which always helps in campaigns) and if elected she could be replaced by Governor Blanco with a new Democratic senator.

4. Landrieu voted for the so-called "partial-birth" abortion ban
and she opposes full equal rights for gays and lesbians.

We need every single Democratic senator possible to retain their seats.

11. We wouldn't lose the seat unless we won
I'd take it. Landrieu is not running so she would only have to give up her seat with a win. Also , I don't know how it's done in La., but if the female Democratic gov appoints, then that is okay, and who's to say a Dem wouldn't win in a special election if that is the case?

Landrieu is not yet VP material.

For the reasons mentioned above, she's unacceptable to democrats. She's also too inexperienced.

There are very few women qualified, and unfortunately, most of them are a drain on the ticket. Clinton, Boxer, Pelosi... add nothing.

Whether Clark or Dean is the nominee, the VP candidate will likely be a male current or former US senator.

12. of course she's vp material
8 years in the senate is plenty.

And she could help win LA for someone like Clark, or Edwards.

Although I think a stronger case could be made for Graham as Clarks vp.

15. Dems would not lose a Senate seat
Louisiana has a Democratic Governor, who would appoint a Democrat replacement.

I think she is a good idea, as Louisiana is ripe for a Dem win, but I need to do more research on her choice and gay positions before I throw any real support behind her.

I don't think the replacement would serve until 08 like Mary would

18. Well, for ONE, she's an actual Democrat, not Dixiecrat.
She supports the party's positions on choice, women's rights
in general, gay rights, etc.

Landrieu may be the best you can do down there, but she's
no Democrat by national standards.

And if she were on the ticket, I'd defect.

21. I guess you subscribe to the "only the far left are real democrats" mantra
well, you're wrong. Landriu is in about the same political level as Lieberman, so I guess by your standards you wouldn't have voted for our ticket in 2000.

22. Threatening to "defect" if you don't get your way
is childish and counterproductive. Obviously, the idea of four more years of Bush doesn't bother you much, if you'd throw away your vote over the VICE presidential nominee.

So just take your marbles and run along home...

Actually, my vote is all I have with which to make a difference.
And I will never give it to Mary Landrieu, a definite Dixiecrat.
I believe that, in the not very long run, the Democrats would be
a far stronger party if they were willing to eject all the
Dixiecrats and stop pandering to the Confederacy.

I'm sorry if you don't appreciate that, but that's the way I feel.

23. Boxer. NOT. She'd be worse or as bad picking lieberman again.
She's a decent Senator but just 1 of a 100 and hasn't raised to the level of presidential material imho of course.

24. as a 20 year resident of California...
I agree.

I think it's sad that there really isn't a pre-eminent woman who would be an obvious VP choice.

Personally I'd love to see my senator, Barbara Boxer, but I don't think she adds anything to the ticket, and she loses the south.

Blanche Lincoln is likeable enough but I don't think she's perceived nationally as a serious leader. '

If we can presume that the candidate will be either Dean or Clark, I think it's rather obvious that the VP candidate will be a current or former Senator. Sam Nunn, John Edwards, and my personal favorite, Bob Graham. Dianne Feinstein is an outside shot, but I wouldn't rule it out, especially if it's Clark's choice.
