Bloomington, Ind., woman says she'll challenge Bayh in primary
Bayh supports the health insurance and Big Pharma industries against the interest of the people of Indiana. Bayh's wife is a corporate whore that sits on the board of Wellpoint. It should not come as a surprise that Bayh opposed single payer and a vigorous public option, which the House bill does not have!

I won't vote for Bayh ever again!

Bloomington, Ind., woman says she'll challenge Bayh in primary

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Bloomington restaurant owner says she is organizing a campaign to challenge U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh for the Democratic nomination next year.

Tamyra d'Ippolito says she wants to be a proponent for the poor and that she wasn't pleased with Bayh's stance on health care reform. She says she's a colon cancer survivor and has been without health and dental insurance since opening Ragazzi Arte Cafe five years ago.

The 50-year-old d'Ippolito was campaign chairwoman for Gretchen Clearwater, who unsuccessfully challenged Rep. Baron Hill in last year's Democratic primary.

She says she's organizing volunteers to collect the 4,500 petition signatures she needs to have her name included on the May primary ballot.

3. Rep. Baron Hill voted against the Stupak-Pitts Amendment
as did all the other Indiana Democratic House members. Hill is a centrist, and he is more attuned to Hoosiers than Evan Bayh, a man that has lived an entire life of entitlement and privilege.

19. What activists need to do is to push progressives onto school boards, up into town councils, then
into state legislative slots, and from there into Congress. Hardball politics is a lot like war: experience and track record almost always matter a great deal. Lots of good people have been taken down by one well-aimed shot from the other side; plenty of others have stupidly shot themselves in the knee. Now and then you'll find someone who brought a knife to a gunfight and won, but it's rare. Scarcely anyone can ride out like Joan of Arc and, unarmed, just stare down an swarm of enemies.

4. 52% of Indiana voters want a public option.
Indiana Dems should be flooding Bayh's office with that statistic, and this woman's name... he should be pushed and threatened with support for this woman's campaign if he doesn't get in line.

8. Quisling fucker. Keep banging away... 52% want the public option...
we have a primary challenger and I'll support her if you ignore the will of the people.

Weekly would be good, but daily would be better. :7

28. Bayh doesn't give a shit
Trust me, as someone who once tried to write and call his office about these things (IG, too). You get a form letter from a staffer. At least Lugar will read some of the letters he gets and take the time to write back himself.

30. Lugar's staffers will at least listen to you. Bayh's staffers are liable to call the SWAT team
as they did back in 2002 prior to the IWR vote.

Do you think mine give a shit? I still call them though. I want to do all I can to personally let them know that they're representing me, too.

As for Bayh you have even more reason, he's a Dem and he has a primary challenger now. Routinely smacking him around with the popular support in IN for public option as well as your pledged support for his primary challenger if he votes with repukes is called for.

10. It doesn't matter
Bayh still won't get my vote, even if he ran against Lucifer.

You all complain about Congress. Well, guess what? It is ultimately our fault for allowing politicians to take us for granted.

I agree however
I lived in Fort Wayne for 3 years and have seen Bayh's operation.

The only way to beat Bayh in Indiana is with someone with credibility and can run state wide.

Bloomington is another problem. The rest of the state considers it the San Francisco of Indiana.

27. You are right about Bayh
He is the 800 lb. gorilla of IN state Dem politics. One potential positive of this announced candidacy is that if it shows any sort of traction whatsoever, a more substantial Democrat may be tempted to take Bayh on in the primary. I do not see any Democrat in the state that has the name recognition and funds to mount a competitive primary challenge. Former Dem. Mayor of Indy Bart Peterson has already sold his soul and is working as a high level executive for Eli Lilly Drug Co.

It is very unfortunate that Indiana is in this situation with Bayh. I just don't see how he can be beaten in the primaries. I do know of some union unhappiness with Bayh in the state and almost every progressive Democrat knows the score with Bayh, but I doubt it will be enough. I will also offer that even if a miracle occurred and Bayh was defeated in the primaries, I am almost completely certain that Bayh would pull a Lieberman and run as an Independent.

The whore Susan sits on the board of Wellpoint. The Bayhs own millions of dollars in stocks in companies involved in the health industry.

FRAK both of them!

I'm just saying that an unknown from Bloomington isn't the best way to charge the hill...it won't play well in the Indy suburbs, the North by Chicago, or Fort Wayne.

18. We couldn't even get the Indiana Democrats to run someone against Lugar
Lugar is a dinosaur that has been in DC too long, yet the party establishment could not bring itself to run a challenger to him.

We are on our own, and it is up to the people to charge up the hill as many times as it takes to take it.

29. Eh...not much
The state party is led by a group of idiots who would rather not do anything resembling work. They pretty much forced Kernan to run against Daniels in 2004 because they didn't want to try to find someone who actually wanted to run (Kernan wanted to retire).

36. Maybe
She still shouldn't be discouraged from running. Bayh should have to work at least a little for votes and be called to account for some of his votes/stance on some things. Nothing wrong with that IMHO and it's not like he will be imperiled in the general election anyway.
