Obama to push back Asia trip for memorial

President Obama will suspend his trip to Asia this week to attend a memorial for those killed at Fort Hood, the White House official said this weekend.

The 10-day trip, which will take the president to Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea, will now begin on Thursday, not Wednesday as originally anticipated. The memorial will take place on Tuesday at the military base, The Associated Press reported on Monday.

Meanwhile, momentum is building on Capitol Hill for an official inquiry into the massacre, which left 13 dead and countless wounded. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) on Sunday even went so far as to say last week's shooting was "the worst terrorist attack since 9/11," and he promised Fox News he would hold a congressional hearing to determine suspected shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's motives.

1. My MIL was spurting forth crap yesterday saying that the Ft. Hood massacre happened

because of Obama being a Muslim. I told her that he wasn't. Saying he was Muslim is like calling Biden a Muslim. I said Biden's Catholic right? And how do we know this? He tells us so, we see him go to Catholic mass, and participate in Catholic services, etc. She countered with "Well, Obama has Muslim ties". I told her OK, he knows some Muslims, so do I, that doesn't make him a Muslim. His grandparents didn't raise him a Muslim, his father didn't really raise him at all, and he regularly attended a church (Christian - although I couldn't remember the denomination or name) in Chicago. I have Methodist and Seventh Day Adventist ties, but I'm Presbyterian.

I won, although she wouldn't acknowledge it, unless you consider her changing the subject acknowledging it ;)

4. The thing is

the military was aware of the trouble Maj Hasan was having and his rather disturbed state. He needed to be treated and possibly discharged.

This does help to continue fueling the "Muslim boogeyman" sentiment in the United States, which is good for the Republican Party and the military-industrial complex. Good for keeping public opinion on the side of our Middle East involvement.
