Our local units in Mpls have become so frustrated by the scarcity of signs that they are organizing to buy them themselves. To give folks a flavor of the situation, here is an e-mail from this very day about such an effort here in Minneapolis (redacted to protect the innocent):
---------- Forwarded message ---------- Delivered-To: cd5 mailing list LDate: Fri, 17 Sep 2004 07:28:29 -0500 Subject: DFL/Mpls.: Kerry lawn signs
To help accommodate the overwhelming demand (and underwhelming supply) for Kerry-Edwards lawn signs, ____ and Senate District 62 are organizing a private purchase of additional lawn signs. The signs are sold in quantity, with price breaks for larger orders -- so the more signs we buy, the lower the price goes. At last report, after collecting more than $1000 in pledged orders, ___ had gotten the price down to $1.95 plus tax per sign. (The single-unit price is $5.00 per sign.) We are therefore soliciting contributions from individuals and organizations who want to buy signs, either for themselves (for example, the State DFL Party is ordering 1500) or for distribution to Kerry supporters who haven't been able to get signs through the Kerry campaign. If you would like to buy signs, please let ___ know at _________ and mail your payment (checks should be payable to "DFL Senate District 62") to
____________
Time is of the essence, so your payment must arrive by Monday the 20th at 5 p.m. in order for ___ to include it in the bulk order. You can also deliver your payment on Monday evening by 7 p.m. to the Senate District 62 meeting at the CWA Hall, 3521 East Lake Street, Minneapolis.
Thanks! ___ or I will send out information about distributing the signs after they arrive. Please contact ___ directly with any questions.
