1. I hope we have reached the peak and we will see a decrease in the coming year.

3. Unfortunately I Don't Think It Has Peaked
I wish I was in grad school again; like I was in the 82 recession. As a small businessperson I am getting killed.

2. I think we'll see more unemployment as health insurance companies lay off workers to ensure..
.. profit margins. :banghead:

7. Probably around 10.6-10.8.
Part of what will prevent it from continuing to spike higher is that the labor force will start to diminish at some point. That will make its descent slower as well when we start to come out.

8. Having lost over10 million industrial jobs in a decade:sky is the limit.
job losses will occur into 2010. What is to turn it around, we are still off shoring and trade laws remain the same. When families have no income, what is to change it.

9. Last night on CNN--two economists predicted over 11% in 2010
They made the case for another but better structured stimulus.

Also explained the States will be laying off workers.

10. This is a jobless 'recovery'
and unemployment has been well over 10 percent for some time now. They don't count those that are under employed.

12. I don't know if anyone else has thought of this
but as long as the government extends unemployment benefits for all those who were laid off over a year ago these numbers are going to continue to be higher. The number of unemployed is based on those drawing unemployment benefits and/or signed up at state employment agencies. Usually the benefits run out and people drop out of the job market as they become more discouraged and they are uncounted in the unemployment statistics.

I know people now who have been drawing unemployment for over two years, thanks to these extensions. One person is drawing unemployment, social security and a pension. He is retired but he is still being counted on the unemployment rolls. I'm just saying that these extensions are great for people that are unemployed but they are making the numbers higher than they would be without them. That is why I don't put much stock in these statistics.
