(Breaking) Nato Fires on US soldiers: "Friendly Fire Kills Several Americans"
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 08:17 PM by Liberation Angel
This is in LBN but the headline fails to address the content:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4136252

Source: Reuters:

The chief of police in Badghis province in western Afghanistan, Abdul Jabar, said NATO aircraft had struck their own troops during the search and that several Americans had died in the "friendly fire" air strike.

Obama needs to stop this goddamn war.

Our Soldiers killing our soldiers in America.

Our soldiers killing our soldiers in Afghanistan.

Its a g*ddamn clusterf*ck: Bush's orgy of death.

Obama needs to get us the f*ck out NOW!

3. Killing our OWN - Several Dead, 25 injured, YTD 400 Dead, 120,000 Troops!!! For WHAT???
Soldiers from more than 40 countries are taking part in Nato's force of nearly 110,000 troops in Afghanistan, two-thirds of them from the US.
The biggest contingents operating in the west of the country are from the United States and Italy.

Western Afghanistan has recently seen a rise in violence, with Taliban insurgents planting roadside bombs to maximise fatalities. This year more than 400 troops have been killed, most of them Americans.

US President Barack Obama is currently considering a request from the military to increase troop numbers by up to 40,000, a decision that is not likely to be made imminently.

40,000 - 80,000 MORE into this bloody clusterfuck orgy of blood?

5. Jeez - why the Unrecs? You opposed to ending the war much?
Or afraid that somehow Obama will be harmed if we actively lobby against what is now HIS war (400+ Dead on his watch this year in Afghanistan)?

I LIKE Obama.

I wnt him to succeed on so many levels.

But we must be like Cornel West and hold his feet to the fire on Obama being a man of Peace: "It is hard to be a man of peace when you are a war president" (Cornel West)

7. I'm not against ending it, but I'd like a full discussion of what would happen
Because that is the real problem. Anyone who thinks Obama wouldn't love to have every American soldier back on US soil is crazy. He's definitely not a warmonger. He didn't start this war. But the consequences of a complete international withdrawal from the region is unthinkable geopoliticaly.

Also, I did want to point out that you said this was an "American vs American" incident. NATO is a lot of countries.

10. That is a discussion we should be having

Kinda like, shot firt and ask questions later or "let God sort 'em out" (Bush)

OR

Pull them out and figure out what to do next as we are pulling them out.

Obviously we need to protect the withdrawal (unless we want helicopters evacuating people from the embassy roof as we saw when we were defeated in Vietnam after 58,000 Americans dead and 20 years of mass murder and genocide)

But it is obvious that we cn do NOTHING for the good of these people by keeping a f*cked up war going in their midst. We need to pull back nd out and rething what to do next.

I am all for peacekeeers to protect civilians.

But rooting out violence and terror with violence and terror is insanity and I PRAY Obama GETS that SOON.

14. Exactly. So quick we forget Granada, Pakistan, and so many others we left fucked up.
It would be sheer brilliance on our part to do it again.

6. Instead of hitting the unrec button
If you think these wars are a good idea your friendly army recruiter would love to talk to you. I'm sure he or she can arrange for you to be right in the thick of things within 6 months time.

12. It was in the middle of escalation of the war in that region
in the middle of it all troops were alled in and then airstrikes were called in on top of the troops.

A total mess.

That is why this sory needs to NOT get glossed over in the news orgy over Ft Hood.

THIS tragedy was preventable if Ft Hood was not...

15. Recommend
We need to get the hell out of both of Cheney's wars right now. I'm sure Halliburton makes a shit ton of money per each soldier deployed. You have to know by now if the Republican's are desperately behind pushing us to stay in, there is a monetary reason. Somebody is making money and Big Oil is either drilling or making pipelines. The Republicans want war. We want heathcare for all Americans. Who is truly pro-life?

Please, President Obama get us out of both wars. Give Humanitarian aide, clean water, electricity, blankets, burkas, baby formula, jobs, and medical care, but stop the senseless killing. Please.

You can use troops to protect the Peace Corp and Doctors without Borders. Win those hearts and minds by cutting the infant/maternal death rate. (I wonder who's is higher ours or Afghanistan's)
