Obama to stop in Alaska Wednesday on way to Asia
Associated Press - November 6, 2009 9:54 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will visit Alaska next week, as he begins a longer trip to Japan, China, South Korea and Singapore.

The White House says Obama will stop Wednesday at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage to refuel Air Force One. Obama will mark the Veterans Day holiday with military personnel at the base.

The visit will be Obama's first trip ever to Alaska. He never made it to the 49th state during the 2008 campaign.

Waiting for Palin's Facebook reply.

3. I wonder if Palin will try to greet him at the airport...
or if, instead, she'll have a "counter-meeting" with military people at the same time.

12. I'm sure she would try if she was still Governor. At this point I think
she's more interested in making money from her book.

9. lol, he CHANGED his mind!!!!!!!
See, here's the thing ..... and I'm gonna give a tip to the single men at DU, it's about the LITTLE things in life. If you want to charm a woman, you dont HAVE to shower her with diamonds (although that doesn't hurt.) ....... But if, say, on the first date, she mentions she has a dog and on the SECOND date you show up with dog biscuits .... that will get her EVERY time.

And that's one of things that .... are I use the "A" word ...... that I adore about the President.

President Barack Obama sounded wistful Thursday morning when an Alaskan tribal leader invited him to visit the Last Frontier.

Told at an Interior Department conference that he'd be welcome in Alaska if he ever wants "to get away from it all," the president replied: "I often want to get away from it all."

"The only thing I do want you to understand is when I do visit Alaska it's going to be in the summer," Obama said. "I just want to be clear about that."

He's bringing the tribal people of Alaska some dog bisquits. Gotta love it.

10. I'm hoping that the memorial for the Ft. Hood dead
doesn't interfere with this trip. Alaska is the only state that Obama hasn't visited, as far as I know.

I don't know how open this stop will be to the public since the plan is for him to address the troops at Elmendorf. What would be far better would be for him to make a trip up here and spend a couple of days traveling around the state. That would be far more meaningful to the Native leaders. (And the rest of us.)

13. The Ft Hood memorial is scheduled for Tues., so the trip will
not be affected.

And I agree, I hope he schedules a few days in Alaska soon - he promised to visit when he spoke at the Tribal Nations Conference.

15. I think this will be a quick stop at the Base on his way to
Asia. But it's good that he's going there at all.

I don't know if you saw any of his speech at the Tribal Nations Conference on Thursday, but he promised he would go to Alaska and spend some time on the tribal lands there. So I'm sure a longer trip is coming soon.
