Army shooting suspect was heading to Iraq
The man identified as the shooting suspect at Fort Hood was an Army psychiatrist preparing to deploy to Iraq.

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman, who was 39 or 40, was about to be deployed to Iraq and was “upset about it.”

NBC News' Robert Windrem said Hasan specialized in traumatic stress. A U.S. military official said Hasan had orders to deploy to Iraq on Nov. 28.

1. No soldier in today's Army is suprised at the news of deployment.
It's a given.

4. death toll now at 13.
Military officials say the suspected shooter at Fort Hood was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July, where he was preparing to deploy to Iraq later this month.

The officials had access to Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan’s military record. They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.

19. I was misled by their title
"The Homeland Security Policy Institute
Presidential Transition Task Force"

It looks like it was undertaken for incoming administration, no matter who won. It's still an interesting connection.

11. I think that's exactly what he did
the "insurgents" being the US Army of occupation who were directly or indirectly responsible for numerous massacres of Iraqi civilians.

Or as they like to say in the Army, "Kill them all, let God sort them out."

27. I'd say you are insulated from the sickness and ugliness of SW Asia
and the atrocities which have been commited against innocent civilians.
Over a million civilian deaths in Iraq alone.

The US invaded those countries based on totally false pretenses (Gulf of Tonkin, ring any bells?)

A lot of bad karma has been generated against the armies of occupation, it's quite predictable that there will be backlashes, and it should be no surprise that attacks like these will surface again. The recent deaths of the 5 Brits by the Afghan policeman should be another reminder of that.

Of how some people take a cause or an issue to the other side. Meaning, you are no better than those you claim to have disdain for. Really nasty crap I am reading here tonight.

14. more from reuters...
An Army psychiatrist who had treated soldiers wounded in foreign wars opened fire with two handguns on soldiers preparing for foreign deployment at the Fort Hood U.S. Army post in Texas on Thursday, killing 11 and wounding 31.

Nader Hasan said his cousin was a U.S.-born Muslim who had joined the military from high school. He had served as a psychiatrist at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C., which treats many badly wounded troops.

He said his cousin had been transferred to Fort Hood in April months ago and was very reluctant to be deployed to Iraq. "We've known over the last five years that was probably his worst nightmare," he said.
A former FBI criminal profiler highlighted the irony of the gunman's reported expertise as a psychiatrist specializing in traumatic stress, which often affects combat soldiers.

"It may be that he succumbed to that which he was supposed to heal," Clint Van Zandt said on MSNBC.

apparently, this muslim who was about to go to iraq to possibly kill muslims, or be killed, in the name of oil, after seeing the destroyed bodies and minds of soldiers sent before him, finallly snapped.

internet about suicide bombings starting 6 months ago. This guy should have been kicked out of the military for these type of postings. Who dropped the ball on this is the question.

in and placed off of active duty status.

Something here does not smell right. We're not getting the straight story. :grr:
