Poll question: Has President Obama sold out his base on healthcare reform?
This is Big Ed's question tonight, but I'm curious about what posters here think.

1. No. His base wasn't exactly lefty
They were just sick of Bush.

If you don't self-identify with that group, maybe you were a fringe activist that got used.

2. I don't think so...
But he certainly hasn't gone to bat on the issue the way I expected him to based on his campaign rhetoric.

Has he actively sold out the base? No. But he hasn't really put it all on the line for the base either.

3. His real base is supposed to be the America people
And, so far, he's letting them down on this. Big time.

4. He sure doesn't seem willing to spend an ounce of political capital on it...
Problem is, that's not going to work in his favor imo.

7. Perfect example of the unrecc'ing thugs in action
DU voters say sellout.

But those who vote via unrecc'ing carry the day in their own sick scene.

14. Obama promised a public option and no mandates. Congress has delivered...
so far...if it passes...something that includes a public option but has mandates.

Obama never promised single payer, so that's not a promise unfulfilled.

Obama has stated since taking office that the bill WILL include mandates, so he apparently changed his mind. Maybe after seeing the cost numbers or something.

I don't like the mandates, but there you go. But selling out his base on healthcare reform? No way. Not even close.
