6. Go Yankees!
I pray for the day when the only conflict we experience is in sports, and not in wars.

Let's have a 7-game Series that is decided at the bottom of the ninth, with 2 outs and the bases loaded.

2. I love Yogi Berra
The last I time I saw him it was in Atlanta, he was third base coach for the Mets when they came to play the Braves. It was a long time ago, when I was married and living a hetero life.

21. I saw on TV live - his son do one of THE stupidest things EVER on a baseball diamond!
He was the second runner tagged out by the catcher - I think Carlton Fisk - right near home plate.

Berra was running on the heels of the base runner ahead of him and both were out by a MILE.

39. It was pprobably not Berra.s fault
Runner on third lallygagged his way home Meanwhile Berra gets waved by the 3b coach who whould have stopped him, Plays like that.....you are not looking for where the ball is..... you are looking at the 3b to tell you what to do,

If it was Fisk, it could have only been late in Berra's career when he was with the Yankees and Pudge was playing in Chicago Because Boston Never played Pittsburgh and Neither the CHisox of Bosox ever played Houston in Berra's final season in the Bigs.

33. Welll.... I'm in my 50s, but I still have long hair, and sometimes my
skirts are somewhat short (no longer minis though), and my jeans a lil' snug, and my shoes and boots of the "eff-me" variety. In other words, like Jill I like the glamorous look, and she makes me feel less ridiculous about it.

26. Great article IndianaGreen;;
I didn't notice that Captain Tony Odierno has a prosthetic Left arm until I read the article and went back and looked at the pictures. When Michelle is handing him the ball to pitch she has that sweet flirty little girl look on her face that I enjoy so much. Great pictures and a happy time. Glad to see Jill more these days. Those high heels are perfect for anyone standing next to Michelle to equalize the height difference.

19. Here's where I note that one of two of Eleanor Roosevelt's WORST public appearances was at a WS game
During the '32 campaign.

In Chicago.

Yanks vs. Cubs

Ruth and Gerhig each hit TWO home runs.

ER slept through the whole thing and would have fallen over had she not been squeezed between her son and a Chicago official.

MObama's doing better here.

The other bad public appearance was when she and their eldest son LAUGHED all through Calvin Coolidge's funeral.

The War Condolences Obama Hasn’t Sent
by Amy Goodman

U.S. Army Reserve Spc. Chancellor Keesling died in Iraq on June 19, 2009, from “a non-combat related incident,” according to the Pentagon. Keesling had killed himself. He was just one in what is turning out to be a record year for suicides in the U.S. military.

In August, President Barack Obama addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention, saying, “here is nothing more sobering than signing a letter of condolence to the family of serviceman or -woman who has given their life for our country.” To their surprise, Jannett and Gregg Keesling, Chance’s parents, won’t be getting such a letter. Obama does not write condolence letters to loved ones of those who commit suicide in the theater of combat.

Jannett told me: “Chancellor was recruited right out of high school, and this was something he was passionate about, joining the military. I wanted him to go to college, but he said that he wanted to be a soldier.” Gregg added: “We had doubts about him joining. ... When the war broke out in 2003, when many of us were trying to retreat, Chancy decided, ‘This is my duty.’ ... But once he did his first tour ... his marriage broke up during that deployment.”

Chance was very troubled during his first tour of duty in Iraq, although he performed admirably by all accounts. At one point he was put on a suicide watch and had his ammunition taken away for a week. After Iraq, Chance declined a $27,000 reenlistment bonus and transitioned to the U.S. Army Reserves, hoping to avoid another deployment. He sought and was receiving treatment at a Veterans Affairs facility. Gregg said, “We sat down as a family, and we said, ‘President Obama is going to be elected, and President Obama will end this war, and you won’t have to go.’ ” But then his son’s orders to deploy came again.

..more..

And remember:

“Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.”

Na, sweet sentiments like that do diddly-squat for me either when my teams (in various sports) lose.

But it's early days, hang on in there!
