Obama, Baucus, Boxer, and Global Warming

The New York Times reported today that "Administration Steps Up Efforts on Climate Bill". As you all know, Barbara Boxer and John Kerry created a bill aimed to reduce global warming. Energy Secretary Steven Chu was quoted "“When the starting gun sounded on the clean energy race, the United States stumbled,” “But I remain confident that we can make up the ground. When we gear up our research and production of clean energy technologies, we can still surpass any other country.”

This bill will reduce carbon emissions by 20% by the year 2020

However, the Financing of this plan must go thorough the Senate Finance Committee, chaired by everyone's favorite Max Baucus. "“We cannot afford the unmitigated impacts of climate change but we also cannot afford the unmitigated effects of legislation,” Baucus said during the first in a series of climate change hearings before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee."

I encourage all of you to call all the Senators on the Senate Finance and Environment and Public works committees and tell them you support the Obama Administration, Boxer, Kerry's, (and Lindsey Graham)efforts to pass meaningful legislation to reduce Global Warming. I know we are in the middle of a heated battle for health care, but there is not point to having a public option if there is no planet to live on.
