Lieberman, Irony, and Public Option
I have to say that it is a little ironic.

Many people here have been taking a kind of funny tone when discussing the "opt out" provisions, arguing, well, too bad, so sad, maybe people in those states (and they always mean densely red states) shouldn't elect people who work against their own interests.

And then the worm turns, and it is the "democrat" from a densely blue northern state who can kibosh the whole deal. Maybe people in Connecticut are fucking idiots?

Anyone who voted for Lieberman, in any case, would seem to deserve what they get, by this logic, and anyone else (at least in the State of Connecticut), too.

2. Ned Lamont would have been a great Senator.
I'm still mad at Democrats who campaigned for Lieberman despite the preferences of the primary voters of their own party, who clearly had Joe's number.

It was the Republicans who voted Lieberman in and plus the old school "Joe's a great guy, who cares if he's a war-monger" vote. The Republicans deserted their own candidate and flocked to Joe. I never really understood why he chose to caucus with the Democrats in the first place. And then of course, he campaigned for McCain. I mean, really.

3. I am for the opt out provision and live in CT. It IS up to us to vote out those who work against us.
Maybe the Dems who voted for him in 2006 will smarten up next time.
