Senate, WH consensus and the trigger is dead
Liveblog: Harry Reid's Healthcare Presser

Update 1: Consensus reached in caucus, and with White House. The public option not a silver bullet, but key to providing competition. Best way to move forward is public option with opt-out. States can determine if it works for them. Will include in bill that will be submitted. Sending it to CBO.

Update 2: Strong public polling on public option makes it a good idea. The people want it.

States will have to 2014 to opt out.

Trigger not being scored by CBO.

Update 3:Q: why not triggers? A: Public option with opt the fairest solution.

What about Snowe? Will continue working with her.

2. Also when he was asked about Snowe he said "We have to continue to move forward."
Behind that comment I think he was saying TS we don't need her!

6. Yup. And he also said...
"We hope that Olympia will come back..." And Reid said he has the support of the WH.

3. To heck with the GoP
If they don't want to come a long. IMO some of them are going to regret this down the line.

8. Yes or No
Sometimes things change, sometimes they don't, but you know what?

Who the hell cares! At the end of the day we know they are working together, having worked through and out any differences they might or might not have had. Our Democratic leadership, from the White House on down, are united and making a stand. I greatly appreciate all their work and today they all have my full support and heart felt admiration.

5. Well, the cowards have found a way to kick the can down the road and into
someone else's yard.

It's sad to think of the people who need a public option now, but who live in those impoverished red states that opted out in the 1860's and who will opt out of a public option just because opting out is part of their tradition.

7. 2014 is too quick. I think at least 4 years from start up should pass
before any opt out can be exercised.
I doubt there will be a widespread epidemic of opting out in any case but there is no reason to take silly chances.
