PHOTO Huh, who said the President doesn't tee off with women?
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 02:17 PM by Jackeens

This combo photo shows US President Barack Obama and his chief domestic policy advisor, Melody Barnes, boarding the motorcade from the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC, on October 25, 2009 to go to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to play golf.

Unless, of course, Melody is but a caddy

3. They've had story galore about how this President likes his
"Boy's Club"....cause he chooses not to play Basketball with women....

http://www.cleveland.com/nation/index.ssf/2009/10/obama_dismisses_criticism_that.html

CNN has been running this story all week, at least 2 times a day.

And the lovely Politico:

If it’s Sunday, expect to find Obama golfing at Fort Belvoir. This week, though, his foursome includes Melody Barnes, President Obama’s chief domestic policy advisor -- and the first woman the White House has mentioned as a golfing companion of the president in 24 trips to the links since taking office.

Barnes, wearing a baseball cap, dark long sleeve shirt and beige pants, joins Obama on the same day that the New York Times is running a front page story, Man’s World at White House?, No Harm, No Foul, aides say, that culminates a round of similar stories triggered by a high-profile, all-male basketball game the president played in earlier this month

6. If he did play Basketball with women......
the first photo coming out wouldn't be the one we are seeing with Melody Barnes.....
It would be a photo of Obama elbowing some 5'8 woman while he being 6'2.

He doesn't even play Basketball with his wife, and she's tall enough....
and I'm sure she doesn't have a problem with that.

But of course, the media wants him in a no win situation.....

now, they will say that it is because of the stories that he has Melody Barnes playing golf with him...

cause of course, like I say, he can't win.

7. I don't think that the President elbowing a woman out of the way
in order to get a jump shot is required for him to be pro-women.

The fact that he sported a pink tie for Breast Cancer Awareness week,
and that his first bill signed was for Equal Pay for women,
is much more powerful than a picture of his elbow in a woman's face,
as he takes it to the hoop could ever be.

I don't see Coed Basketball team often.....
and there may be a very good reason for this.

8. I agree 100%, but because I am male, I feel hesitant to trust my judgment certain possible women's
issues. This is why I almost never post on abortion threads, even though I enjoy reading them, and I want abortion to be legal.

11. As a once sporty person who used to be ferociously feisty towards condescending sporty boys.....
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 03:19 PM by Jackeens
...I don't have a problem at all with 'sporty boys' clubs'.

I finally conceded, after many a bitter losing experience, that I just couldn't compete against them in sports that involved physical strength - like basketball, like golf, like tennis.

I remember refusing to use the 'ladies' tees' on a golf course once, when I was up against my brother-in-law, and ended up spending the day searching for my ball in the undergrowth.

It taught me, after 20 years or so of refusing to admit it, that 'boys' are just stronger - I rejected all obvious evidence until then because I thought it would be an admission of weakness. But then I grew up.

So, I have no problem at all with men doing their own thing when it comes to physical sports - like it or not, we're just built in different ways. Neither is superior, just stronger/weaker physically.

So this bullshit doing the rounds about the President having no respect for women because he doesn't invite any to join in on his basketball games is, well, just bullshit. And honest, it's nothing to do with my cheerleader status, just a fact based on experience.

14. I think any sensible married man doesn't usually play sports with women w/o wife present.
Men get away to have some time alone together the same way women do stuff together. Not as an exclusion but for a different perspective.

It's not like it's a course or game where women aren't allowed. It just happens to be the group.

IF he had women involved in a lot of extra curricular activities, they'd be accusing him of THE extracurricular activity.

The treat Obama LIKE A STEP CHILD in the African proverb....

A step child can do nothing right.
If he takes a bath, he's wasting water.
If he doesn't bathe, he's a dirty child.

12. Who is Obama Playing Ball With? Beyond the pretty pictures ...
http://www.democracynow.org/blog/2009/8/25/who_is_obama_playing_ball_with

"It looked like it was business as usual for President Barack Obama on the first day of his Martha’s Vineyard vacation, as he spent five hours golfing with Robert Wolf, president of UBS Investment Bank and chairman and CEO of UBS Group Americas. Wolf, an early financial backer of Obama’s presidential campaign, raised $250,000 for him back in 2006, and in February was appointed by the president to the White House’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Economic recovery for whom?

Interestingly, Wolf’s appointment came in the same month that UBS agreed to pay the U.S. $780 million to settle civil and criminal charges related to helping people in the U.S. avoid taxes. Not to worry. UBS, an ailing bank with a pre-existing condition, had great insurance coverage. It was actually receiving $2.5 billion in a backdoor bailout from bailed-out insurance giant AIG. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said, “It looks like we’re simply laundering this money through AIG.” UBS, this bank that shelters wealthy tax dodgers, was actually being bailed out by hardworking U.S. taxpayers..."

13. One of my favorite things about the President....
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 04:05 PM by Clio the Leo
.... if someone comes up with a valid criticism, something he might be doing wrong, he jumps on it with the quickness. (well, he doesn't that with ALMOST everything lol) .... some could argue that he is overly concerned with PR, but considering the LAST guy's approach to the matter, it's a refreshing .... ya know .... change.

Oooohhhheeee! He did NOT like Savannah asking that question! It's about as mad as I've ever seen him in an interview. That head cocked to the side! Mouth hanging open, foot ERECT. Savannah should get a medal for surviving that one. lol

16. I hate these diversions from the real issues we should be questioning...
http://www.democracynow.org/blog/2009/8/25/who_is_obama_playing_ball_with

Last Friday, as Wolf was preparing for his golf game with Obama, UBS whistle-blower Bradley Birkenfeld was sentenced to 40 months in prison for facilitating offshore tax evasion through UBS banking schemes, despite assisting federal investigators in exposing the secretive bank.

Above the entrance to UBS’s headquarters in Zurich is a bust of the Greek god Hermes — not only the fleet-footed messenger of the gods, but also the god of thieves and merchants. The symbolism is striking. Whether or not Wolf won his golf game against Obama, UBS has clearly scored a hole-in-one."

How some had complained that he didn't play hoops with women staffers and how this weekend he played golf with one female staffer.
