1. I appreciate that you do what you do, and you do it well.
But I wish like hell that you weren't appearing on Fox. They don't deserve your wisdom.

2. Not sure why you appear on Fox all the time.
Are you one of their token liberals who are only there for them to mock and "prove" to their audience that lefties are crazy?

As one who has numerous rightwing cousins that only watch Fox, you're certainly not changing their minds.

What' the point?

3. You're assertions are wrong and ask the wrong questions.
I am 100% sure that if Democrats do not appear on Fox that we have zero chance of changing the viewers' minds. That is certainty you can take to the bank.

The assumption that you make that it is impossible to change anyone's mind who watches has nothing behind it. As soon as you put something empirical behind it, I'll start taking you seriously. Until that time, this is exactly the audience I want to attempt to reach.

4. Hi, steven
What do you make of this Fox/WH/Treasury press pool incident? Are the people at Fox lying about not being granted access, or did the WH make a serious error?

7. It looks like a Treasury staffer made a mistake
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/24/fox-news-exec-on-attempte_n_332707.html

I can completely understand the mistake. I find some of their tactics just as frustrating as anyone else, but its important we go on there and fight. Boycotting them or attempting to boycott them is not going to yield results, at least not results we would find positive. Just look at Rush Limbaugh. That coward is thriving in an environment where he has no democratic/liberal voices ever there to try to refute his points. In fact, Rush didn't have any success with his schtick until the repeal of the fairness doctrine allowed him to not have a counterweight on with him.

9. So Huffington Post is matching the TPM report that they didn't receive a request...
and therefore were left off the roster?

What I"m trying to figure out is if this was an innocent mistake or if this is Fox playing games with the rest of the press corps.

11. I think it was intentional, but it wasnt the big deal its made out to be
From what I can gather, some Treasury staffer intentionally left Fox off the roster, probably out of frustration and as a result of not liking how Fox covers things. Like I said, I can understand. I dont think that every mistake of every staffer should be earthshattering news. It's hyped well beyond what happened.

22. Honestly, steven, I think there's something fishy about it.
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 01:54 AM by Writer
The reason why is that all the Treasury Department has said is that they absolutely did not intentionally leave Fox off of that roster. The only source saying that they did, and apologized, is Fox News itself. Even if it was an honest mistake, frankly, I think Fox played the victim in front of the rest of the press corps. The press corps is also completely ignoring the huge issue of JOURNALISTIC INDEPENDENCE that is simply nonexistent with Fox. That is the part of this that, as someone who is earning a doctorate in media studies, a complete outrage. As much as I also criticize the personalities of MSNBC, I think Rachel Maddow's recent package differing between journalists giving commentary, and a media organization organizing and advertising protests against the government, is spot on. Yes, they have a right as free citizens to speak their minds, HOWEVER, they rip apart journalistic values by doing that.

23. Actually, no. If you didn't send in your university application, was it
the university's clerical error?

Faux News did not submit a standard request for interview time...unlike all the other stations who did so.

Faux News error.

And more of their bullshit "poor wittle us!!1!!".

8. You raise a very good point.
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 11:35 PM by parasim
And so yeah, I do understand now why you want to appear there.

I'm just going on my own experience of trying to reason with my cousins who refuse to watch anything but Fox. I've presented many of the same arguments that I hear you talking about and they completely shut me out. As far as I am concerned they are brainwashed by Fox. I'm sure that when they see you there they think of me. I had one of them say in an email that she "can't stand to read what Steve (that's me) writes" and refuses to even debate with me anymore.

But, really, I do appreciate seeing someone like you going on those shows and voicing your concerns. Opinions that I totally agree with.

Thanks for doing that, despite my skepticism that it will ever do any good.

:toast:

on edit to add: Don't throw in the towel, as I apparently have done. : )

12. I know where you are coming from, believe me...
I've seen some of the responses in Freeperville calling me every possible name in the book. But I have also seen a few that said I made them think about a few things and some saying they thought I won a particular debate. If I can get a few points in each time that makes a few of them think, I feel like I am fighting the good fight.

You are an inspiration to many of us who have become so jaded to think that absolutely no one will listen to us.

Kudos on getting some Freepers to start thinking for themselves.

5. Wayne Rogers???? from MASH???? Why is he there???
Not that any of the others appeared to have any better qualifications...

I have to give you kudos for having the courage to go into that arena of ignorant beasts and maintain your cool and calm demeanor.

Listening to them makes me want to kick my TV in...that is why I do not watch FOX.

13. Well, Cashin' In and Bulls and Bears are primarily business shows
and have a business bent. Wayne went on from show business to become a fairly successful business man in real estate and some other ventures.

Unfortunately, he also became very right wing.

20. There is a bit of irony in that the man who replaced Rogers in MASH,
Mike Farrell, is one of the most leftist, liberal, progressive people in show business.
I believe Alan Alda is pretty left leaning as well.
I guess that may be one of the reasons Rogers left...

he is a republiCON and he hates poor people.

I try to watch every saturday as I watch them plan on which stocks they can cash in on and how they can hurt the poor and the middle class even more.

The little guy who looks like the guy on MAD magazine is one of the worst,he is one greedy selfish little bastard...

18. Well, if I go off on them when they upset me, I fail at what I am trying to do
I'm trying to factually appeal to the audience and if I lose it, I fail no matter how good my facts are. And, it would really give my opponents a good deal of satisfaction.

Of course, please note, Im being literal about the feces. It is Fox News after all.
