Levin: DADT Hearing Next Month
A key US Senate panel will hold a hearing next month to look at a possible repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" ban on gays serving openly in the US military, the committee's chairman said Friday.

"We'll have a hearing in November in the Armed Services Committee," Democratic Senator Carl Levin told AFP, adding: "My hope is that we are going to find a way to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'"

"It is long overdue," the senator, whose home state is Michigan, said after a press conference to mark the passage of legislation extending US "hate crimes" protection to assaults motivated by the victim's sexual orientation.
