Poll question: Vote on Opt-out Public Option
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 01:30 PM by TheCoxwain
Say, if it turns out that PO with opt-out is all we can get from the Senate- What will you do?

I am not adding an "Other" option on purpose - so do not say "Other" in your reply.

11. Let them eat cake? Lots of Dems live in those states, but you
don't care about them do ya, Marie Antoinette. This isn't any kind of 50 state strategy, this is discrimination which we are supposed to abhor. When did we become just like "them". So hey, lets just accept the fact that we can't pass a "real" HCR, even with control of both houses of congress and the presidency.

4. Opting-out will be the final nail in the coffin of anyone who votes to deny coverage to their state.
I say we ENCOURAGE the opt-out clause.

Remember the stimulus package?

All the Republicans who voted against it, but then started issuing press releases about what wonderful things they were using the stimulus money for?

Give them a chance to opt-out.

If they vote to opt-out, they won't be re-elected.

it has nothing to do with doing what is right. :eyes:

20. No. Once they lose the election, their seat will go to someone in favor of a public option.
And since the thing isn't supposed to start until what... 2013? They may still get a public option just as soon as everyone else anyway.

21. Wishful thinking.
The opt out is gambling the welfare of tens or hundreds of thousands of people on the thought processes of the lunatics running the red states. Doesn't sound like a safe bet to me.

The 2013 starting date (which is a joke, by the way) will just give the opted out states 3+ years to trumpet their 'victory' to their imbecile base, while the registered Dems of these states feel betrayed. It's lose-lose no matter how you try to spin it.

7. My State - TN
Would be one of the first to try to Opt Out option.

Hopefully enough people will rise up to complain that they need it that it would not pass the legislature.

9. I'm sure the whack jobs here in Oklahoma would pass legislation immediately
opting out of the program.

Inhofe/Coburn/Sullivan = the WORST of the WORST.

10. Since health care is a human right according to Obama
I won't be part of denying that right to people in the red states who are unfortunate enough to not have the numbers or time health wise to vote the bums out. Why some people must pass a litmus test because blue state democrats-dlc'rs are forcing through inadequate and unfair legislation is beyond me. Especially those in red states who voted for democrats.

The only way to change people is to include them. But I guess cutting that all too inadequate 10 million by 2019 number down further will be a plus for the ins. industry, that much easier to destroy.

This isn't about health care it's about saving the health ins. industry through the new, industry approved human right to a mandate.
Right to access to health care.... sorry, nope. Maybe next time.

17. As long as they have stick to it through start up (like 4 years) then this is an easy compromise
because none will be allowed to opt out.

I think its time for a bit of a feint and nod and pretend to play along while throwing in a trigger that would allow the opt out, just to be double sure nothing happens.

Clearly, no dice on an immediate opt out but if we can get them to start in they won't have the wiggle room in almost any case to take it away.

19. Take it. Other states will want it in the future after they see how it works.
Assuming the Public Option they passs is strong enough to work.
