Do you think world bad faith in/ fear of the Bush regime was underreported in the US?
Looking back, and with the Nobel Peace Prize and the Russian's statement that Obama had averted a second cold war, It occurred to me that the world breathed a sigh of relief not because Obama was the first black president, but because it soon became evident to them he was not a war crazed alcoholic bufoon like Bush.
No documentation, just something that occurred to me.
Thoughts?

2. No fear involved for the M$M
Look at how they are complacent in the attacks on President Obama for your answer. The corporate media was in collusion with the bu$h regime.

The relationship the bu$h regime had with the media had to make other propaganda agencies around the world envious of the bu$h cabal.

3. Yes. This is why we need a diversified, INDEPENDENT media in this country.
The corporate-owned media that benefits from not telling the truth to the American people must be dealt with. When you have a company like General Electric that profits from military contracts, you can't expect it to report news that would endanger that business in their media subsidiaries.

When you have blatant propaganda and mis-information by the likes of Faux News, with no accountability whatsoever for telling lies, it becomes a problem.

Do you suppose we'd have gone to war if it had been widely reported that the Bush Administration was LYING to Congress and the American people about Iraq's part in harboring terrorists? How strong would support have been if the Downing Street Memos had been published when first discovered? Would Bush have even been elected to a second term?

We need a Fairness Doctrine that deals with today's media issues. There isn't enough diversity in the media to ensure everyone gets the whole story, especially when you consider many of the broadcast stations are all owned by the same entity. And lots of people still don't have expanded cable, where there's a better choice.

4. Of course it was. Any criticism of B*sh in the MSM was characterized as "UnAmerican"
"Soft on Terror" "Not Supporting the Troops" "moonbat lefty commies" "fringe"

And the WORLD'S trepidation was "Frenchified" . .

for anyone but a blinded by the right bush'aholic. (No offense intended)

But Nobel aside, the bush regime was hated and despised world round. FOR GODS FUCKING SAKE A REPORTER THREW HIS SHOES AT HIM DURING A TELEVISED PRESSER- KNOWING HE COULD BE SHOT ON THE SPOT!

The US press is handled by their owners. To expect rational informative coverage from them is beyond naive. But that's why I come to DU.

8. The world could give a flyin' flip that the President is African American...
.... maybe there's an exception in Africa and the Carribean .... but the world in general ..... Russel Brandt BEGGING the American people to elect Barack Obama at the 2008 MTV Video awards .... was a WHOLE LOT about Bush ..... but also a whole lot about Barack Obama.

Ron Paul wasn't George Bush either and no one was begging for his election.

The man is simply brilliant. And the rest of the world is just a little bit better able to see that than we are sometimes. Distance encourages perspective.

(Senator Barack Obama, speaking in Berlin, July 2008)
