Jeremy Ring 'for sure' looking at Wexler seat

State Sen. Jeremy Ring of Parkland says U.S. Robert Wexler of Boca Raton told him earlier today that he would be leaving Congress, though he didn't specify whether he would stay until his term ends in 2010.

"I'm still in a little bit of shock over this,'' said Ring, who called Wexler a mentor. "I represent about one-third of his district so I would go into it with a strong base. I'd like to think that I would be one of the obvious people looking at the seat.''

Ring represents the Broward County portion of Wexler's district, which includes parts of Coral Springs, Parkland, Tamarac, Pompano Beach, Coconut Creek and Margate.

"He represents primarily seniors and he's fought so hard over the years for them,'' Ring said. "I know he was proud to represent the greatest generation. He was like everybody's son."
