Kerry should use Muslim fundamentalism as a metaphor for Christian
Kerry ought to attack to the dangers of fundamentalist religion especially when it has political aims. He could point out the dangers of religious zealots in the Middle East who want to impose narrow thinking on their schools, take away the rights of some minority groups, reduce freedom of speech, deprive women of rights over their own bodies, and blindly defend acts of war on people of other religions. He could use the problems in the Middle East as a metaphor of what could happen in our country if Bush gets another four years. I think it could be awfully effective, especially with Independents, many of whom do not like the power of the right-wing churches.

1. I agree with the sentiment...
...but it can too easily be spun that Kerry is "anti-Jesus," and they'd eat it up and proclaim Bush their new messiah.

2. I think he could do it without talking about Christianity
He could simply talk about the havoc that religious fundamentalism has caused in the Middle East, and talk about how western nations have done well by largely separating church and state, while honoring the traditions and beliefs of different religions, blah, blah, blah.

5. If you're a progressive fundamentalist Christian ...
you may not hold views comparable to right-wing fundamentalists of any religion. I have a good friend who is an evangelical Christian, and she's very liberal and tolerant (and is even pro gay marriage). But, if you're a right-wing fundamentalist, then chances are you want to do something about the gay problem, teach the bible in public schools, and do what you can to get rid of the infidels.

4. Kerry should avoid any kind of discussion of religion.
Any kind of cricitism gets the fundies lathered up. They think that we're going to throw them into lions' dens.

6. I'm a Christian but I'm ashamed to admit it because of the extremists
I think he would do best to keep religion out. They'll turn anything he says into soundbytes against him.

7. I kind of like it.
how about a commercial showing the religious nuts who bomb abortion clinics? Ties in to terror, extremism and abortion.

Also--point out McVeigh was a Republican and home grown threat.
