Right about now I wish Obama would come out and say something like
a bill without a widely available, quality public option is just unacceptable.

I can dream can't I?

1. Any public option will be hailed as a victory at this point, in my opinion
Even if useless, itll be used to obscure the mandates

2. He's too afraid of failure. Instead of being a leader, he's being politically expedient...
If he comes out and demands a public option but the Dems in the Senate, reject it, sadly he'll get the brunt of the blame. But if he remains duplicitous, he can claim credit that *something* was passed. At this point, I think the cowardly Dems just want to pass some form of a bill. They don't care whether it has a public option or how watered down it'll be.

5. How about..
"I will not sign a bill without a strong public option"

Or would you rather ignore actual quotes that come straight from the President's mouth?

I'm sure a friendly reminder right about now from Obama to the base would be really nice.

I think it would calm a lot of people down, cut down on Dem infighting, and get us united and pumped for the fight to come.

17. It would be ignored, back paged and under reported just like the last statement was...
...Obama has been sayin that the PO is just one part of the overall HCR and it's going in unless someone can show him something better for so damn long I can almost repeat what he's said verbatim.

20. you're right
some people are just absolute averse to good news and MSM would ignore it. I think it has something to do with a hangover effect from the Bush years when everyday was another piece of bad news.

11. I'm not ignoring....
wow if we said those actual words, then how come no one here is talking about that?

How did I miss it? I've been obsessing over this for months.

thanks for letting me know.

can you point me to where I can find this quote in some context -I mean, when and where it was said and any other statements he made at the same time? It would do much to ease my mind. thank you.

16. A link to his statment and some answers to your questions

"wow if we said those actual words, then how come no one here is talking about that?"

- Speculation: I personally believe the dem net roots is the grass roots of old and if you want to negatively affect the grass roots effect those grass roots lie about Obama continually in writing. What's surprising to see is the number of M$M errors repeated on DU even those this is the same M$M who help lead America into a false war.

"...How did I miss it? I've been obsessing over this for months...."

- I worked in a very prominent media outlet, it's called back paging and under reporting and the US media does it often.

21. thanks for informing me
without snark..

I know some people are so fucking negative that sometimes we get reflexively annoyed with anyone who's sounding a bit down about things or confused about the facts of a situation.

we all want this though, bad, -that's what should bring us all together and get us past the semantical arguments and what not, I think if we can stick together and fight our hearts out, we can do it.

I believe that Obama's strategy so far has worked as good as any strategy possibly could. He deserves credit for that. One part of me wishes he'd get out there and bust out the rhetorical flame-thrower and kick some ass, but looking back on his track record, the patience game has worked for him every time so far (how soon we forget what an amazing feat it was for him to beat a juggernaut like Clinton in the primaries), so why wouldn't he -on this hugely important issue- use the most effective strategy in his bag of tricks. It exacerbates the shit out of the roots because we want to see an unabashed lefty warrior, but that might not always be the best approach to moving a lefty agenda forward -in military theory there is a thing called the indirect approach, which means being very flexible, patient and unpredictable and confusing the fuck out of your enemy until they finally make a mistake and leave an opening -I think that's what he's done.

If we do win, the biggest laugh I'll have is on Big Pharma, who it looks like, Obama has tricked into remaining complacent through most of the battle, while Congress slowly sets up to fuck them hard in this bill. Let's hope that's how it goes down.

12. Obama: Snowe 'diligent' in her work on health care................
Oct 13th, 2009 | WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is praising Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe for being "extraordinarily diligent" in working with Democrats on health care reform.

Snowe says she will vote Tuesday for a Democratic health care bill. Passage of the Senate Finance Committee's bill is a foregone conclusion, but Snowe's bipartisan support is a significant boost for Obama's top legislative priority.

Obama says the finance committee has done "excellent work" in drafting a bill, and called the likely vote "another step forward" toward achieving health care reform.
