Sens: Snowe's healthcare vote puts her top Commerce perch at risk
Sens: Snowe's healthcare vote puts her top Commerce perch at risk

By Alexander Bolton - 10/13/09 06:05 AM ET

Sen. Olympia Snowe (Maine) is risking a shot at becoming the top Republican on an influential Senate committee by backing Democratic healthcare legislation, according to senators on the panel.

A Senate Democrat on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee said Republicans on the panel are threatening to vote against Snowe, who is in line for the senior GOP post that is about to come open.

And any Democratic Chair that votes against cloture, should lose their committee chair.

1. Perhaps Snow should become a DEM and replace a spineless Dem chairing a committee?
Can't be worse than a Dem who sells out to insurance companies....

2. Why not?
She is probably a bit to the left of a typical Blue Dog.

"Gentlemen. We have to protect our phony baloney jobs."

I'd like the see the scales in here office where a little bit of prestige could possibly outweigh the health and welfare of millions.

Vote right and show that there is a vestige of courage and character in the Senate.

4. Im trying to remember
When the GOP controlled all of Congress did the MSM elevate a single Democrat to being the most important person in the Senate like they are doing with Snowe?

5. They never had to...
because, unlike Democrats, Republicans managed to stay united (regardless of how wrong or hurtful it was).

Besides, there was always a Dem or 4 willing to vote for the most vile thing Republicans cooked up.

7. I think she calculated that she gets more power playing swing-Republican...
than she would as ranking minority member of Commerce.

In Commerce, she gets to sit and watch as she gets outvoted.

As swing-voter Repub, she almost gets a veto over quite a bit of legislation.
