How many Senate Democrats will join the republicans in filibuster of the health care legislation?
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 07:47 PM by AlinPA
Some on DU (weeks ago) have said that it would make it through filibuster but we could get 51 votes. What's the thinking now? I'm thinking Lieberman (I) joins the republicans as well as Democrats Lincoln and Nelson (NE). Any more?

19. Will he risk his chairmanship?
Per Rachel, the Dem leadership will move to take chairmanships away from any dem who filibusters. I believe that they are free to vote against the bill, but they may be in trouble if they join the R's to filibuster.

5. The Dems will fall in line on this one and vote for cloture.
The "bill" will garner 51 on the final vote.

20. Per Rachel, he is threatening chairmanships if they filibuster
He is OK with them not voting for the bill, but not filibustering. Hear that Baucus and Lieberman?

23. My gut of truthiness increasingly says yes.
With the increasing support for the public option, even the conservadems are realizing that they'll be tarred & feathered if they vote against health care reform.

When it comes to a floor vote, there will be an all-out push to get the Dems voting unanimously for cloture, and as Rachel mentioned, there's the threat of losing chairs for those who don't vote for cloture.
