A counterblow for all the grinning bastards that SNL recently spawned:
I found this in my search to correct one of these jackasses. It shows that, while Obama has a long way to go to keep all of his promises, he has at least made a healthy start.

4. And IMHO, the Obamameter seems tilted slightly against Obama
For example, I think Number 240 is more of a compromise than a broken promise.

6. SNL's biggest crime is still
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 05:25 PM by Engineer4Obama
Having a really really crappy Obama impersonator. The cadence isn't even close and they pass up good joke opportunities for less funny ones out of the right wing play book.

9. SNL's biggest problem with their political stuff
is that it isn't original. 90% of the political stuff is having Obama or whoever giving a speech. Big whoop.

I remember in the 90s with the Clinton stuff, at least it was original. Like that one with Phil Hartman as Bill, going to the McDonald's and explaining Somalia with the Big Mag and Coke?

Or that one with Reagan. They showed him meeting with some girl scouts acting like a doddering old grandpa and then once the girls were ushered out, he would yell "ALRIGHT, BACK TO WORK!" and start throwing numbers and figures around, screaming at people.

12. My take on SNL with PO is..
with the other Prez' all they had to do was mine the facts..with Obama they have to make up stuff.
and it's not funny.

Course, over the years the crew has changed and its writers who are really the backbone of any performances.

15. For god's sake, don't some have anything better to do than attack comedians?
SNL doesn't have to be accurate. They are a comedy show! Jon Stewart is right about some, they can't tell the difference between the news media and comedy!Jon isn't always accurate either. Are you going to complain about all the late night comedians as well? Follow around all the stand up acts? Get a grip. You should be more irritated that the Obama impersonator stinks and doesn't do him well at all.

16. I assume you're using the term "comedian" loosely
The only sin of that routine was that it wasn't funny. SNL should be able to say whatever they want about the President, fair or not.

17. Actually some of the writing was funny.the line about 4 mos to choose a dog was funny. The delivery
sucked. My point is the ridiculousness of anyone taking offense at satire or comedians. They will be outraged at anything mocking Obama. None of these characters were around squealing when SNL mocked Clinton , Kerry , Perosi, Gore or any other Dems. They didn't demand a comedy litmus test for "truth in comedy"!

What about Obam's SNL appearance? Did you fact check it? Did you fact Check the clinton sketch? Keep an eye on Leno.he may say something you don't like. And watch Jon Stewart.he isn't predictable.neither is Conan.

23. So melodramatic over so little
I didn't "defend" anything. In fact, in a previous thread about the skit, I said some of the jokes weren't fair. I think Iraq would be the most egregious example. But I also know comedians don't often have regard for the truth. What they play on is public perception. Whether you care for it or not, there is a perception out there that the president's actions to date have not matched the lofty promises and rhetoric of the campaign.

It never bothers me when comedians skewer someone I like or admire. What creeps me out about this is the outrage and sense of "My god, they're making fun of him. Someone must do something!"

That's totally crazy. That actually is a component of a personality cult - and I never bought it into that stuff during the campaign (I supported Obama in the primaries from the beginning).

If you want to run around fact-checking every time a comedian does something, that's certainly your prerogative, but don't be surprised if you find the uninitiated staring at you a little strangely and wondering when admiration ran off the rails into full on supplication.

21. Not attacking SNL
This is a rebuttal to RW idiots who try to use the skit's comedic foundations as if they were actual fact. I've had to deal with a few of those, and reasoned that others might have as well. Thus I posted my OP in the hopes that some would find it useful.

24. But some folks on both sides take this waay too seriously. GOP wants to present it as fact but
remember, they thought Colbert actually was "one of theirs" and sent campaign solicitations out using his quotes. They just looked stupid.Lorne Micheals, gave a lot of money to Obama but he really straddles the fence.I think he donated to mccain as well and for his type of show, thats how it should be.After the favor they did us with Palin, we don't have room to complain.
We just don't need to look stupid by taking comedy seriously. And some are.

Some of you OTOH object to ANY criticism of the President. Some are extending this objection to "jokes" or satire. You have the right to do that as well. I also have the right to think that is silly as well.
