I am just stunned...just back from a city council primary vote
and I could not believe the number of people who had turned out before me to vote.

We use paper ballots and when you feed them in, it tell you what number voter you are.

Usually at city council votes, especially primary votes, only the most dedicated of voters turn out, and sometimes not even them.

Add to that, it is cold and rainy.

I am hoping this is a wonderful offset of last years election with people more involved and voting.

The screed was that we would get them out for just the Presidential vote, but then lose all the new voters to the traditional apathy.

Not this time.

This could be great for 2010.

The republicans are hoping we will not turn out.

SURPRISE!!!!

:hi:

3. "The republicans are hoping we will not turn out." - And so many DUers working in concert with them.
So your news is most welcome. Thanks!

8. And you're sure they're on our side?
Because there are a WHOLE BUNCH of angry old white people with time on their hands running the streets lately. And that's not exactly the base of the Democratic party. My father (who I've mentioned before is a minister) spent the better part of the afternoon counciling a church member (who meets the above description) was SERIOULY convinced that the Presidend is the anti-Christ.

I am NOT kidding.

10. I had that same thought... We will get a clue when the results come
out tonight, because there are a couple of looney tunes on the ballot, and if they get the nod for next months election, then it could be backlash.

But looking at the group that was there and who walked in when I did.. Looked pretty good.

I will let you know..

We will have the results after 10:00 PM tonight.

I will say one thing though.. I had lunch with a very conservative co worker, and she is not happy with the current state of what is the republican party.

They may be loud and noisy.. but not sure they are the power they think they are or the power the media gives them.

Grassley has really taken a hit in Iowa in the polls.. sooooo..

12. Okay the Primary results are in.. and a bigger surprise than I first thought
Actually vote totals were DOWN citywide. Two of the three council primary canidates that I voted for will go on to the November general election.

The area I live in, tends to be more democratic, and we turned out great.. the rest of the city totals look to be 2% lower.

Now I live in the most conservative part of our state.

So looking at it now.. the republicans were not the ones who turned out this primary.

I am shocked

PLEASANTLY

13. Good deal
People don't buy the Confederate nonsense as much anymore, I don't believe and they are plainly toys in the attic.
