Edited on Sat Oct-03-09 11:52 PM by RBInMaine
All this big ta-doo over the finance committee bill. Everyone knew that ONE committee would do co-ops instead of Public Option (and STILL the PUKES won't back it, so FUCK ALL OF THEM !). Remember, Public Option DID pass the 4 other committees. It WILL pass the House. It WILL pass with 51 reconcilation votes in the Senate. So just chill out. It is far, far from over. BTW, Obama has worked is BUTT OFF on this. He WILL sign a reform bill, and it WILL be an advance over the status quo. He HAS damn well led on this, or we would be doing NOTHING right now. Remember, CONGRESS MAKES the laws, not the President. He signs and enforces them. Yes, he can submit legislation, but even then the Congress decides what goes to committee, amends, etc. etc. Remember civics 101. Obama HAD led !! BIGTIME !

1. The right one, or just any ol "public option"?
Or does it matter to most of you, as long as you get your pony? Remember, even the ugliest pony will still come with a mandate.

and the extra hollandaise sauce.

6. Our system is properly complex. I expect there WILL be a public option and that
the ultimate bill will be an advance over the status quo and a smackdown on the RePUKES. Let's get an ADVANCE. Maybe not a perfect bill, ok, but an ADVANCE. That's the system and an ADVANCE is GOOD !

31. Who's demanding a perfect bill? We need a good public option that is available to everyone!

There is no guarantee that the bill that comes out of a House/Senate conference committee will represent an advance.

We shall see.

And if it doesn't represent meaningful progress and is mainly a multi-hundred billion dollar handout to the private insurance industry, big Pharma and the for profit health care industry will you support it?

13. nice snark, but, having observed the people's servants in action, I don't believe
that the majority of them on either side care about the people who employ them.

and THAT, my friend, IS political reality, as shown to us each and every single day.

28. I wish we could elect good people who want to change things
But money talks in our current system. Without it you get nowhere. With that said, I choose to be a skeptic until I see proof that I am wrong because the current system does not allow our politicians to vote with their conscience but vote with their pockets. The health care industry has much more influence than the little guy.

8. I cannot believe these folks. The last 6 years has been a civics lesson and they still don't get it
If the proposal had not come out with ANY public option it would be trouble.

I was disappointed when my Senator, Bill Nelson (FL), voted with the Republican's on the stronger amendments, called his office and went ballistic. That's only so he knew that we are watching.

Wait till the reconciliation, then get your Senator on speed dial for the cloture vote.

16. Telling people to "chill out" is always bad advice in politics
The corporations and the politicians who are on their payroll are not going to give up easily, if we chill out they win. History has shown us that the only way to beat the rich and powerful in the political world is to fight back, we need to stand firm and demand that our government serve the people and not the powerful moneyed interests. I will not chill out, I will continue to fight and not calm down because some one tells me that Congress is going to do the right thing. I have watched Congress do the wrong thing on to many occasions, I am not going to assume they are going to do the right thing this time just because people tell me they will.

20. Nice try, but lately
people seem to be flocking to and rec'ing the heck out of the "We're not going to get anything for Healthcare!" posts based on the selective doom and gloom tidbits that keep getting put out from what the Finance Committee is doing, even though they're only a fraction of the whole process.

You can't sell logic when people want to go full Chicken Little.

.... as does Sen. Harkin.

Isn't it funny that the men who are actually FIGHTING for the PO are more optimistic than some of us? lol

Even Judd Gregg, a mean old Republican who doesn't want it, thinks it will be in the final bill.

22. The word option has a distinct meaning
that is clear in our dictionaries. A plan that can not be freely chosen is not an option, even if it is public. It must be open to all to be an option. It must be one of several choices available to be an option. A last resort for those with no other choice is NOT an option, no matter how public it might be.
I hope you understand what option means and that you are using the word as it should be used, not as part of a political spin job. An option has to be just that, an option, not a last resort or a thing allowed to a small segment of people. Word games are not going to work. Calling a cat a dog will not make it bark.

33. No. We need to act for the greater good.
But denying problems is not a good way to start.

We need to have a sound analysis of what is going on to help us to target our efforts.
