Glenn Beck's Creator
The late Irving Kristol was hailed as the father of neoconservatism. But The Daily Beast’s Lee Siegel argues he paved the way for the cranks who have taken over the GOP.

Irving Kristol, who died last week at the age of 89, is routinely described as the “godfather of modern conservatism”—though why he is called godfather rather than father is a mystery: He created neoconservatism, he didn’t watch over it. But the description is imprecise in a deeper sense. Kristol was the father of modern conservative nihilism.

1. Not true

You may hate the neocons and you may hate Beck but they are not the same

Beck is a firm disciple of Mormon conspiracy nutjob Cleon Skousen

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleon_Skousen

In fall of 2007, political commentator Glenn Beck began promoting The 5000 Year Leap, which Beck has described as "divinely inspired",<22> on his show. Skousen's son Paul Skousen asked Beck to write a forward for a new edition of the book. Texas Governor Rick Perry has also promoted the book. <23><24><25>

As of June 2009, the seventh edition of The 5000 Year Leap is the #1 bestseller in Amazon.com's Government category, #10 in the Nonfiction category, and ranks #20 on Amazon.com's overall list of bestselling books. At the same time, the 30th Anniversary edition of The 5000 Year Leap is #11 in the Nonfiction category.<26><26><27>

I am sure that the Kristol's find these ravings bizzare and counterproductive. Beck's fillial reverence to Skousen is well known.

2. The last time Irving Kristol was in the WH, he begged Bush to bomb Iran.
I would say Irving Kristol is also the godfather of a lot DU members who espouse that same philosophy.
