Handy Guide to how Republicans and Fox News are responsible for Census worker being hanged
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 09:11 AM by zulchzulu
We need to absolutely expose Glenn Beck, Michele Bachmann, Michelle Malkin, CNN's Lou Dobbs, Michael Steele, Rush Limbaugh and the legion of others parroting right-wing lies for trumping up this nonsense and getting people to now commit murder in a hideous fashion.

The story:

The FBI is investigating the hanging death of a U.S. Census worker near a Kentucky cemetery, and a law enforcement official told The Associated Press the word 'fed" was scrawled on the dead man's chest.

The body of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found Sept. 12 in a remote patch of the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky. The Census has suspended door-to-door interviews in rural Clay County, where the body was found, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Why did this happen? Oh gee whiz, let's see...

Michele Bachmann was on Glenn Beck’s Fox News show today, and the result was an absolute panic over the 2010 Census. Beck worried that by not filling out the Census the government could take away his gun. Bachmann also continued to claim that the Census information could used to put Americans into internment camps.

Media Matters:

Here's the GOP's Top Parrot, Michael Steele:

"President Obama's old friends from ACORN, the leftist, urban 'community' organization with a long history of promoting vote fraud, has been chosen by the Administration as a 'partner' with the Census Bureau to determine population counts in cities around the country," Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele wrote to supporters in an e-mail today.

Factcheck.org has some very revealing information on how the ACORN/Census conspiracy theories were carried by right-wingers, Fox News and the puppets spewing their nonsense:

Bachmann is flat wrong about ACORN going door-to-door and gathering data. Being "partners" with the Census Bureau doesn’t entail as close a relationship as one might think. For the most part it involves getting the word out that it’s important for everyone to participate in the decennial event that helps determine where federal money goes and how House of Representatives district boundaries are redrawn.

(snip)

ACORN has been a frequent target of conservative talk show hosts, including Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, since last fall, when Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign accused the group of "massive voter fraud" and claimed that Obama had "long and deep ties" to the group. We found the voter fraud claim to be false – although some canvassers from the group had been found guilty of or investigated for voter registration fraud – and the one about Obama’s involvement to be overstated, although he has had more contact with the group than he originally let on.

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/06/acorn-and-the-census/

Fox News spread the lies about ACORN and the Census:

ACORN's partnership with the 2010 Census is worrisome to lawmakers who say past allegations of fraud should raise concerns about the organization.

"It's a concern, especially when you look at all the different charges of voter fraud. And it's not just the lawmakers' concern. It should be the concern of every citizen in the country," Rep. Lynn A. Westmoreland, R-Ga., vice ranking member of the subcommittee for the U.S. Census, told FOXNews.com. "We want an enumeration. We don't want to have any false numbers."

So where are these people getting the message that a census worker is a "Fed" and should be hanged?

In case people haven't realized, the Census Bureau has broken ties with ACORN:

In splitting with ACORN, Groves sought to tamp down GOP concerns and negative publicity that the partnership will taint the 2010 head count.

"It is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts," Groves wrote.

Don't let that stop someone from still wanting to kill a Census worker when they knock on the door...

2. Other causes of death in 3....2....1..
Don't you know that it could have been suicide? Drug dealers who ran out of ammo for their 47 guns and had to use a rope? The Zodiac, because FED are the first three letters of the victims astrological sign in Turkish? Can't jump to conclusions here, nope, no sir. Just wait, lots more credible possibilities will be advanced by the legions of DU detectives.

4. Thank you for posting this
Do you know of any website that tracks the recent slew of murders that have been fueled by hate speak, be it faux, beck, radio, books, and so on. Very much appreciated, thanks.

5. If there isn't such a site, there really should be one.
Of course Media Matters is the primary place to find detailed incidents of what these idiots spew on a regular basis. But I haven't seen a site that links the speech (e.g. O'Reilly's abortion hate speech) with actions that come as a result (Tiller murder).

6. Media Matters... but a site showing complicity with hate messages is in order
If I had more time, I'd do a site on that... like this one I've done recently:

13. That is so so sad.. his poor
son and loved ones.

There's gotta be some accountability for the lies and hate being pushed by the people who profit from it.

12. So true. The cop killer in Philly can be added to their culpability list of
radical killers incited by the hatemongering promoted by the GOP.
