It's bullshit, because the insurance industry would lower premiums for a few years then lobby to kill the public option by showing the congress the numbers; which contain cheaper premiums for their customers. We know what happens next congress kills the trigger and the public option. As soon as the bill is amended, premiums spike an all time high. As the insurance industry continues to fatten the pockets of congress it becomes that much harder for the next generation to improve health care. The insurance industry is fighting tooth and nail, because they know this. The insurance industry like other corporate entities are domestic terrorist, and they must be defeated by the people. We have to do it by putting up a real fight. We have to get our democracy back and end the 100 plus year reign of the corporatocracy.

1. Trigger mandates

Don't let the government force you, with penalty, to purchase insurance unless it can first prove the reform makes it affordable and available for all (as well as no more bankruptcy's or insurance related deaths)

2. Don't look now, but the Baucus bill does trigger the mandate. It won't apply to anyone whose costs

would exceed a certain percentage of their income.

3. You misunderstand what a trigger is.

Thats ok. Not everyone follows these things. A trigger would mean the entire mandate/penalty section would only come into effect as a law once certain arbitrary conditions are met (regarding affordability, subsidies, accessibility, denials, etc), and for all people, those measures would not apply until that test is positive.

4. IIn other words it was constructed to never get pulled. This is why they put so many obstacles in

the way of real reform. The trigger is another way to get us to shut up, but some on the left believe the public option is the same thing.

5. We already have all the trigger we need,

in the form of 273 deaths per day in the U.S., or 100,000 deaths per year due to lack of healthcare. But hey, let's not stand in the way of blood profits when the CEO needs a new yacht. </sarcasm>
